Random...

Four devices that were brought by a man Thursday morning to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department’s headquarters on Lexington Road were determined to be actual bombs that police took to an offsite location to safely detonate them. The man told police he found the pipe bombs in a storage shed that belonged to his father, who recently passed away. The shed was on the father’s property off of Hull Road, police said.
Believing them to possibly be real explosives, the man brought them in his truck to the Lexington Road police headquarters in an attempt to turn them over to authorities. Almost immediately after he arrived at about 10:15 a.m., the police building was placed on lockdown for the safety of employees and members of the public. Members of the University of Georgia Police Department’s Bomb Disposal Unit responded to the scene and used a robot to remove the devices from the truck and X-ray them to determine if they were actual bombs, said Athens-Clarke County police spokesman Epifanio Rodriguez.

UGA has a Bomb Disposal Unit? How big a problem are bombs on campus?

I'd be willing to bet every major university in the country has the same thing. Not that strange.

Slightly off topic but don't smoke that fake weed crap and go to the police station either.
I think it was last year that one of the Patriots players (not a big name one but a contributor) smoked that crap then drove himself to the Foxborough police department, took his clothes off, then got on his knees and put his hands on his head right on the front lawn of the station.
End hijack, made me think of it.

I'll bet the UGA police have some of those surplus combat vehicles with machine guns, and probably some shoulder fired rockets. Give them access to tax dollars and they spend like drunken sailors, or my ex-wife.

I would have thought bomb disposal would be the responsibility of the GBI, not the school. A brief google search is not showing up other major university bomb squads for me.

I bet you are now on a list

Well, at least there weren't any air to ground missiles in that pickup truck.

Well, they definitely have police ATVs.

Sorry but the guy is an idiot. This is when good Samaritan goes to the extreme. I would have simply disposed of them myself. The LAST thing you should do is carry explosive devices into a public setting unless of course you are some kind of demented terrorist.

I'll happily continue to pay whatever fee/tax funds our bomb squad.

Let me guess. It's a plus for recruiting?

UGA has had an Explosives Unit since at least the early 2000s. They respond to calls all over northeast Georgia, not just on campus, although every now and then there are a rash of on campus bomb threats.

How would you know this is something a demented terrorist should do?
Have you been vetted?
