never saw him as a long-term thing

Since when has any Bama OC been a long-term thing after Saban got here in '07? Applewhite for 1 year, McElwain for 4, Nuss for 2, and Kiffin for 3...I recall hearing McElwain joke earlier this year how he was the longest serving OC at Bama under Saban...

Whomever we get as OC, I seriously doubt he's here long-term either...

Kiffin has reached out to Blake Barnett to join him at FAU.

That is a good thing strategically in my opinion. The only constant with Saban is talent rich punishing defense. The ever changing variable is the offense that is also talent rich but changing in how it punches your team.

I think that's pretty typical for any successful program. Guys who can't quite meet the expected standards quickly get moved out (Applewhite & Nuss) and guys that are successful get promoted to the next step, which in the case of a coordinator is HC somewhere. Kirby was the obvious exception in that I think it is pretty clear now that he was holding out for one particular job.
