You said in the links above that you trust him because you expect him to tell the truth.

I did. All of us Aggies all did. We trusted he had a real competency about evaluating and coaching defensive players. We were maybe wrong, but we didn't know that then because frankly we haven't had a decent defensive coach at the school in over a decade.

I don't have any skepticism. Now that we are in the future the facts are known. I know the facts.

Fact: Les was fired this season, likely taking Chavis with him.

Fact: We won't fire Chavis this season, ensuring that he gets another year of massive pay that he wouldn't have gotten at LSU due to the "Les Clause."

None of that is very interesting to me at this point.

What is so interesting to me is the fact that the warnings we were given were so far off.

We were warned Chavis sucked on 3rd downs, or about his lack of recruiting. So far that hasn't been our problems with Chavis. His recruiting has been at least decent in my eyes, and his defenses perform better at stopping teams on third down (we are ranked 63rd on that stat) than we have done on defense overall (ranked 91 nationally).

Our biggest problems under Chavis has been defending the run (75th nationally) or the pass (97th nationally) on any down under Chavis. It is like he is a completely different guy under us, which means either he was always a fraud or the culture of Texas football creates larger issues on the defense that Chavis can't fix. The fact that not a single Power 5 team from Texas has a defense in the top 50 nationally tells me it could be both things at the same time.

He isn't a different guy, you just don't listen to him when he speaks. His philosophy is to defend the field with speed and stop the run with numbers. His teams do get run on (when they don't have Haynesworth and Henderson to plug in the middle) because his priority is to cover the field and arrive on the run with many hats. When the Calvary can't get there, they give up yards. Such has been his entire career.

How is that fact? Only the bad coaches were let go along with Les. Chavis wasn't a bad coach at LSU. Speculation does not equal fact.
