Aranda’s LSU defense finished the regular season sixth in the country in scoring defense, second nationally in fewest touchdowns allowed, and 13th nationally in total defense. (Not bad for his first year on the job at LSU!)
Meanwhile, Chavis’ A&M defense finished 37th, 27th, and 91st in those three categories, respectively.

Tennessee fans were right all along
LSU fans didn't want to listen
A&M fans didn't want to listen

There is no way it could have anything to do with a talent gap of the actual players, specifically line backing core.

Better comparison would be Aranda's results at LSU versus Chavis' results at LSU.

I remember when mods locked Chavis threads on this site. I guess they're okay again.

I will always respect Chavis because he was the guy behind one of the best defenses ever imo. That 2011 defense was ridiculous.

There is tons of offensive talent in Texas, but not a whole lot of defensive talent.
And even when you do find talented defenders, they can often count the number of power run offenses they faced in high school on their fingers, and have some left over. The proliferation of of air raid offenses in Texas high schools has seriously undermined the development of defensive skills.
If Chavis is going to build an SEC caliber defense, he has to start pulling run stoppers out of Louisiana, and the deep south states.
