He whirlybirded his arse into this Sugar Bowl.
I'll be impressed if he doesn't get destroyed by Oklahoma. And that's how Gus gets by; on tempered expectations. But he shouldn't have any excuses this year and unless he gets another Cam Newton to fall in his lap he shouldn't ever be in a better situation. This is his fourth season. He's got all his own guys in every position. But two years in a row he couldn't identify the talent that he had on the team. Last year he pumped up Jeremy Johnson as a damn Heisman contender. For that alone, he's really really really full of shite. This year he didn't realize that Kam Pettway was a baller. Gus gave him no touches against Clemson and he cost them that game. Plus he wasted countless time coming up with these bullshite packages for JF3 and Chandler Cox instead of spending some time developing a legitimate 2nd string QB. It doesn't take a fortune teller to see that a QB the size of Sean White might get at hurt some point running that offense.
And maybe worst of all, Gus got outcoached by Kirby Smart this year.

We will see if Gus is in over his head this time next year. Big time SEC ball may be too much for him, AU may be too big of a job for him. The training wheels are off, he's got this players and His staff. Sink or swim Gus.

I forgot, was Cam taking snaps in 2013 when his offense rolled all over the rest of the SEC?
Time to put that narrative to bed.

By the time we rolled into Athens we had so many injuries that I'm not sure Vince Lombardi could have won us that game. That's still on Gus, from a roster management standpoint, but the in-game performance was the result of having a) no quarterback, and b) one single (speed-sweep freshman) running back healthy
