I think it's more schemed out by recruiting. It's hard to get elite guys when the offense doesn't prepare you for the NFL.

The guys who were NFL QB prospects weren't going to those places to begin with though, and theres a lot of HS athletes that could run the option that don't get a chance to play QB at D1 levels.

The RB's are all over the place, and the lineman really don't have to be the freak size of the NFL prototype. The option and zone block guys (like Denver in the NFL) have to be more nimble.

The guys are there, and Malzhan's system (which is essentially the "no huddle" option) has been effective at times by speeding up the pace. Again, the speed of the defense and adaptations to personal changes/subs has caught up again.
