for the plays this guy is calling. You've got to be kidding me. With 2 weeks to prepare I saw NOTHING different from the fat man.

Lol, I'm not even mad anymore. Kentucky will whip our arse

Definitely not shown anything to justify the paycheck this year. I get that he's not working with the best tools but he gets paid the money to work with what he's got.

How do you make 850,000 dollars and not have recievers at least pass the first down mark before you throw to them on fourth down. Twice.

Honest Question: Has Saban ever had to fire a coordinator?
Posted on 10/29/16 at 6:39 pm to wizatlanta
It's really beyond horrible, the fact is Kirby needed to hire a OC in a hurry to keep Eason on board and he fricked it.

IDK...but I do know that I've never seen someone so obstinate to continue to do what's obviously not going to work. The ole definition of insanity thing...
Posted on 10/29/16 at 6:48 pm to MeatCleaverWeaver
Exactly. Don't anyone go holding their breath expecting a Saban replicator bot to ever do something he has never seen Saban do before..

I don't know if he fired him, but I remember Major Applewhite not returning to Alabama after Saban's first year - when he hired McElwain as the replacement.

It would be the 4th different OC in 4 yrs, we might lose some recruits on that side of the ball.

I'm a fan...with very little football knowledge of what happens at the college level with play calling and scheming.
That being said, why aren't we throwing quick outs to RBs or screens to slow down DE's?
Why aren't we in shotgun with two wide outs and a slot guy to spread them for the run.
I don't get it.

That makes two of us, the screens were a staple of our O the past 15 yrs. Using Michel and Herrien in the passing game seems logical but Chaney obviously has other plans.

I'm not impressed. However, the result today is better than Mark Richt did with his own players last year. The gimmick of playing Bauta/Ramsey resulted in 4 INTs and 3 points, more interceptions than points. That game was a joke on the offensive side of the ball, and the defense couldn't stop the run when only 7 passes were thrown by UF.
MY THOUGHTS:
This Georgia offense lacks any true outside threat, i.e safeties and corners can sit on run plays and short passes. Safeties step into the box without a concern of being burned.
The interior offensive line is a joke, i.e. noseguards/tackles don't have to stunt/other to defeat the blocks and create penetration. Once interior defensive linemen can create this type of penetration without creating a hole by stunting/shooting a gap, there are fewer cutback lanes for the RBs. Additionally, the fastest way to gain yards on the ground is through the middle, which is not possible with big DLs in the backfield. Moreover, the fastest way to defeat any play is in the middle, as it results in pocket collapsing and RBs having to cut and not gain speed toward the line of scrimmage. The tackle play is bad too! I dare any offensive mind in the country to take this line and play competitive offense in the SEC.
I have one hope, and that is Eason survives this season in good health without any head issues (yipes). If he does, then maybe some of the young linemen can become good tackles or guards. I believe that this team will need to recruit several tackles, as Madden and Cleveland, who both have size, likely lack the quickness to be tackles in the SEC.
As for Cheney, I would like to see less tight formations. This line appears to do a better job of pass blocking when there are three and four receiver sets. Cheney should review the tape of the Pats, who have done a better job of utilizing the TEs by breaking them out wide and creating size mismatches on running downs. Nauta/Blaze can create the types of LB/TE matchups that are winners for an offense.
I do realize that the strength of this team is the defense and therefore, the play calling has been conservative to prevent mistakes and keep the team in the game. I'm hopeful that Kirby's teams do not become a repeat of Muschamp at UF. The defense will be good, and it will continue to improve. Having said that, D alone will not get it done. It's everyone's first season, but a lot more talent will be needed to win in this league with a vanilla offense. LSU had a great deal of talent and didn't do a darn thing without a better OC. Kirby should look to his boss and hire an OC with more imagination, but i don't think that is likely after only one season.
I hope/think there will be wins against Tech and UK. AU will be tough, but a good home crowd might be enough to get the Dawgs over the hump.

You and me both. Especially since we've been saying that for a while.
Do we have a football genius that can explain why we keep doing this?
