re: LSU: If you finish 8-4, will you be happy with keeping the former Ole Miss HC?

He got worse every year at Ole Miss
I don't really care what he did at Ole Miss 10 years ago. Look at what other great coaches have done early in their careers.
Pete Carroll took over the Jets (8-8 in 1993) and got fired after going 6-10 his first season. He took over the 1995 AFC Champion New England Patriots, proceeded to go 10-6, 9-7 and 8-8 and got fired again.
Saban hardly set the world on fire with his 34-21-1 record at Michigan State
Bill Belichick had a career record of 41-55 after 5 NFL seasons.
My point is, sometimes it takes a while to grow into the job. Fact is, what O accomplished at Ole Miss was 10 years ago and with inferior talent. What he has done since is go 9-2 under difficult circumstances. But to answer the OP's question....8-4 will not cut it. It doesn't mean O can't be a good head coach some day, but 8-4 will in all likelihood mean that we lost to Alabama and unfortunately, his career as HC at LSU all hinges on that one game.

Are you seriously trying to compare Ed Fricking Orgeron to Saban, Carroll, and Belichick???
You idiots have convinced yourselves he is LSU's savior after beating Southern Miss, Mizzou, and Ole Miss

Uh, no I'm not. If you read the whole post, especially the part where I said "My point is", you'd realize that.

When Sumlin takes his drunken dive this November, like every November, remember that Miles is available to upgrade your program.

If LSU finishes 8-4 they are only losing to the two teams left on their schedule that are clearly better than them. Expecting more than 8-4 out of LSU is ludicrous.

Saban never had a losing season at Mich State. Orgeron had a losing season all three years at Ole Miss.

There are lots of successful interim coaches that suck as head coaches. We don't need another dumb, nice guy that can recruit as our HC. We need someone smart who is proven and successful as a head coach running a program.
Sounds like you want Herman, with his less than 20 game experience and a team that looks like shite

Yeah, I can see that. Ole miss is basically the Cleveland Browns of the SEC.

I am happy with lsu winning 8 games a year for an entire century. 8 wins is a "good" season

No he wont stay, he has to run the table. He may run the table and still not be hired

These are HORRIBLE points.
Bellichick had an 11-5 year with the Browns and was better than both his predecessor and successor. In the NFL. And he was an unreal DC.
Pete Carroll was a very successful D coordinator and was a better than .500 coach in the NFL.
Saban? Are you serious? He had a winning record, rebuilt that MSU program, and was an extremely respected defensive mind.
How are you comparing any of these brilliant head coaches to Ed Orgeron? You should feel ashamed. Ed O went 3-21 in the SEC, was worse than both his predecessor and successor, and trend DOWNWARDS at the one program he was in charge of.
Other than that, he's never been a head coach. He's never built or maintained any program other than Ole Miss. He's also never been a coordinator, much less a successful coordinator.
Again, answer these three questions:
1. Why has no other good football program even interviewed Ed Orgeron to be their HC?
2. If Ed Orgeron became the coach at Alabama, Arkansas, or A&M, would you be nervous? Would it be scary to play against him as HC in our division?
3. If he was from New Jersey, would you still want him to be HC with that resume?

Wrong.
He recruited pretty well. And he still got WORSE every year. His third and final year he went 0-8 in the SEC and Houston fricking Nutt took that same team the next year and won the Cotton Bowl.

You mean take teams with coordinators and players already in place from the previous head coach, a big talent advantage, and win games the teams were supposed to?
There are lots of successful interim head coaches who do the same thing and suck as full time program managers.
