The #1 thing that always pisses me off is when they call it a gateway drug.

"Once you do pot you'll go do harder stuff"

Bull. fricking. shite.

I've smoked pot regularly since about soph year in high school and heavily all throughout college, best friend was in a frat, partied hard all through college, never once did anything but smoke pot and never have.

If someone is going to smoke meth or shoot heroine, I do not believe for a second that marijuana is one reason they got to that point. If you're gonna be a hardcore druggie, then you're just gonna be a hardcore druggie, MJ or no MJ.

Eh, there's something to the gateway theory, but it's in large part a result of the BS war on drugs.

Pot is a "deviant" behavior. By procuring it and using it, one often comes into contact with deviant subcultures that have different norms than mainstream society. As one continues to associate with that subculture, then other behaviors that one might have once consider aberrant can become normalized. Obviously, that didn't happen with you, but it DOES happen quite often.

In addition, due to the BS "Just say NO" and "This is your brain on drugs" campaign involving tons of misinformation about marijuana, pot users, often, upon using pot and starting to do their own research realize the huge amounts of fallacious propaganda surrounding those campaigns. They then might extrapolate out onto other drugs the same BS propaganda that they've discovered was used on pot. That can, once again, normalize use of other drugs and justify it.

All of this could be solved, of course, by removing the deviant aspects of marijuana usage by decriminalizing it.

the 800 pound gorilla in the room is that the real gateway drug is pussy lol, not marijuina. party girls like to party hard.

i mean i don't know just a huge contingent of people who use but everyone that i do know started because of pussy. the day i first used a hard drug, i want to say november of 2004, that morning i wouldn't know what cocaine looked like if you put it next to me and couldn't roll a joint. i went on a date and a white bag broke out and when you're sitting in a bed with a naked woman and she lets you snort coke off her tits well dammit, i can just say no to drugs, but they don't make ad rug stronger than sex for a young adult male.

ironically enough i smoked my first full joint in my entire life only 2 months ago,i hate weed. I like stimulants with a small dose of opiates to take the edge off and I have a script for xanax which is 100000% necessary. my fiancee likes it though and she convinced me to try it. i still hate it.

Agree

I mean how many stories do you hear of people getting high off of weed and going out to rob a gas station or assault someone?

If anything weed makes people more introverted and less confrontational.
Hell if anything maybe making weed more available will help counteract the effects of drugs like meth to make people less unpredictable.
