#4 Military : declare war on Central America to the Panama Canal (including the island nations) so if you have to build a wall, it is only the length of the Panama Canal. It does not have to be a long war and you don't wan't to destroy the infrastructure so all the factories down there can be repatriated to US for future taxpaying workers down there.

So, you'd be willing accept 48 Million new people into the union, most of which work for pennies in order to build a cheaper wall? How in the hell would you do that? That's zero revenue from 85% of Central America, plus the fact that they're probably not prepared for a "government".

That's the stupidest fricking thing I've ever heard.

It was done somewhat in jest, but you do realize Mexico has lots of oil and lots of future crisis / stability issues. Check how much food in your local grocery now comes from Mexico.

Instead of sending capital to China, send it to Mexico with lower transportation costs and a language / culture / religion more in line with current america. Wars may be ugly, but they reduce lots of population which lessens strains on resources. Once you kill off or ship out folks you really could get South America to a much more manageable position. Population control can fix lots of problems in a century or less.

Concentrate most of the population to a few key cities and turn the rest of Central America into huge public parks or well managed environmental farming. Pretty sure sugar cane is much more conversion friendly than corn but they could grow corn too. Think of all that global eco tourism! You don't even have to go all Jurrasic Park, just far enough back to pick up many of the critters we have lost since the last big Ice Age.

Building back forests and ecosystems are good for keeping that air we breath in good order. Owning large swaths of fruit and vegetable producing land is in the best interest of the US long term and giving all this aid is not getting a return, so just own it and work out better allocations of capital and resources.

As to the wall Trump proposes, say for simplicity we are dealing with a wall stretching roughly 2,000 miles. The border between Panama and Columbia is about 50 miles and creates a perfect natural barrier

1 Crossing on foot (extremely dangerous)
2 Boat (easily monitored with modern technology)
3 Plane (even easier to monitor and defend)

As a bonus we get the Panama Canal back and bombing the crap out of Columbian drug lords gets real easy. Nothing but win for a US president with a vision. :)
