In college football, unless in extraordinary circumstances, I am a believer in four years minimal to have an idea on program direction. Guy is 9-2 in the SEC with losses at LSU and vs. BAMA last year and UT this year. I mean, come on, what more is he supposed to do?

Not recruit like he's at South Carolina?

Well, I've got good news for you then: You are.

I'm telling you the pro-set isn't going to work well at UF.

He hasn't run pro-set, almost the entire year has been spread offense as well as last year.

Most coaches need at a minimum three years to get their cycles in, and with 8 - 4 star recruits that's not that bad. It's way better than what Muschamp was going to have and really, we're lucky to have won the East last year and even be participating this year.

Our program was going straight up shite creek.

I hate to break this to you -- but this UF is not the UF of 2000 - 2010.

We had a fricked up previous HC who had no clue how to run a program (and still has no clue to run a program) and the only reason they're ranked ahead of Florida in recruiting is because they have like 8 - 2 star recruits.

We lead SC in 4 stars and will pick up more as the year progresses, especially with some solid wins if they should come.

But you can't ask a dude to come in and fix the fricking disaster we had without an offensive line, kicker or quarterback outside of Grier.

The 2 TE and 1 WR spread?

I don't get where people think Mac is a great developer of talent. He had it easy at Bama, it's easy to look good when your boss can pull in 5 star talent all over the place. You can't point to one player on this offense that Mac has developed so far while at UF. Callaway was a stud from day 1. Mac needs elite players to mask his coaching deficiencies, and terrible staff decisions. Even if you look at his CSU teams you see major problems like:

In his 3 years His biggest win was against 10-4 Utah St in their 2014 year. Never beat a ranked team.

His wins over 3 years had a total w/l of 106-192. He never beat a rank team and was 4-11 against teams with a winning record in 3 years. You don't hire this guy at all and especially not at $5.4M and a $7M buyout.

Right he was basically a poor man's Urban Meyer-- Urbs won the MWC and a BCS bowl, ran the table and basically set the stage for Utah to be Power 5 team. Mac kind of turned around CSU temporarily but didn't really build anything lasting there-- his peak was what 2nd or 3rd in the conference? He's like Mark Hudspeth or PJ Fleck but he worked for Saban so he must be good. I don't think he should be fired but I do think its probable that he'll be on the hot seat and/or fired by the end of 2017

There's this bizarre thing going on in the Florida Fanbase, that after the Vanderbilt game he should be fired. I think it's absolutely batshit insane, but, I admit I could be wrong. What do people outside the fanbase think?

no. he deserves, at a minimum, 2 more years.

A coach should be given at least 4 years unless he absolutely tanks.

He won the East with a Muschamp incompletely recruited team. He seems like he'e been doing fine.

Do I understand this right... Florida fans want him gone because he's not doing good enough in the recruiting rankings? Is that it?

I don't think McElwain is a great coach, but he has done nothing to deserve getting fired.

If McElwain was the guy you wanted a year ago, he's still the guy. Obviously, last year was a little bit of fool's gold with how poor the east was, but it's not reasonable to expect him to have a top notch program at this stage.

I can understand the frustration Gator fans, never mind the Horn emblem I am a Tiger fan and live in FL so follow UF closely too. I root for you guys in every game that isn't LSU.

Do any of you think if Grier was still here we would be having this discussion? I know the recruiting has been poor, no excuse for that, but would the W/L's be any different?

Way different, if we had LDR I think the Tennessee game would be as well. It's tough when you just keep losing quarterbacks and the dude before you had about every quarterback 4 or 5 stars bust and literally left you with two on the roster who have actually played, or who aren't walkons.

He is a mediocre coach at best. Florida could do ALOT better than him. As a guy that has to face him every year, I hope he stays at Florida for a long time.

Don't fire McElwaine yet, but force him to correct his biggest mistake in giving Doug Nussmeier a job. Nuss is your problem on offense, or at least a big one. Nuss was a dumbass as OC at Bama and Saban made him move on. He moved on to Michigan and helped get Hoke canned. The guy is a disaster as a play caller and will continue to handcuff your offense. Get rid of him. If Mac won't fire him, then fire Mac. It's that big of a deal.

Well, apparently he and UF are cowards and don't want to play football while injured and would rather cancel a game...so he's got that going against him.

McElwain was a bad hire period. Florida should never be a place for on the job training. Him, just like Champ and Zook were crap shoots. Maybe they will succeed, maybe they won't. That's not UF football. We need a proven winner. Urban Meyer was a proven winner. He was gift wrapped for Foley. Other than UM, Foley has crapped the bed in these other hires. He rolled the dice on Billy Donovan too. He got real lucky.

Foley is infatuated with young head coaches that may become a great coach. You cannot take that chance in football. You need sure things like a Harbaugh, Bobby Petrino (warts and all), Gary Patterson, etc.. You need guys that you know are competing every other year that are slam dunk winners. The jury is still out on McElwain. Since last November, I've seen enough to know he's going to be a dud. The team has not improved one bit since then. Same stupid mistakes, same inconsistency, same low energy, same lack luster effort, same horrible offense. Would you really sit down with him and then sit down with another SEC coach and sign with Florida? This guys is like Gomer Pyle. Everything is wonderful and a bowl of cherries. He ain't winning a title. Why prolong the inevitable?
