His father died on Saturday night. Bielema flew with him back to Minnesota over the weekend.
Per Bert's Monday presser.

I'm willing to bet not many coaches would do the same the week before #1 comes to town. Some things are more important than football.
If we're losing on Saturday and anyone on here drunkenly bashes BB for leaving town...

No one will bash Bert for this unless they are truly sick... Ragnow, if he plays, can give up 20 sacks an no one will criticize him... Dude's 20yrs old and just lost his Dad.

Unfortunately there are people that sick. I feel his pain. I lost mine when I was 27. Still hurts 18 years later.

I still remember Nutt making his player choose between attending the funeral of his mom or staying on scholarship...

Also lost mine at 27. May 22 of this year, as a matter of fact.

Yeah, I'd like some details on this one. Bigger POS move than anything Petrino did, if so.

Yes, the high ups intervened, then Nutt contacted the family to reschedule the funeral to after the game (not the first time he tried that during his career), the player went, and Nutt blamed the performance on that side of the ball as being largely because of the player not there during the post game presser...

It was Wes Murphy, I believe.

Had a professor tell me in college that a player had confided in her that he absolutely hated Houston Nutt.
I also had a fraternity brother who was a scholarship player until he stopped playing football due to injuries and not being able to break the depth chart. When he met with Nutt to inform him he was quitting football, Nutt had absolutely no idea who he was despite the fact he was on the team for 3 years and Nutt had recruited him.
HDN was a colossal POS.

Heard similar stories about this, Nutt only cared for his star players and pretty much ignored the rest. Watch the Mitch Mustain documentary and it really confirms what most think about HDN.

RIP Mr. Ragnow and prayers of peace for Frank and family.
Good on BB for going with him.

Wow. If you're going to be a sociopath, at least be good at something. Guys like Petrino aren't any different, but at least they're good at the jobs they're disregarding human lives for.

Petrino is too meticulous to not know what the 5th string linebacker eats for a late night snack
Doesn't make him better but not knowing who a player in his team is isn't petrino personality type

His disregard for people is a different type of disregard, but he's still a shitty person. Petrino may know what his walk-on linebacker is eating at midnight, but he'll still inform that linebacker that he's no longer going to be his head coach via a laminated note on his locker while he slips away in the night. I'm sure a father somewhere has abandoned his child, never to be heard from again, in a way slightly less insulting than that.

Look, I realize the guy is most certainly an a-hole and I can't stand him at all, but I don't hold the ATL thing against him. He basically shot his boss the bird and said "You sold me a bill of goods, I'm going back to college ball". If you were that guys boss - would you let him call a team meeting or do you tell him to GTFO. You get rid of the piece of crap and move on. There's no way that The Falcons would have given Petrino the chance to address the team. None.
