These threads are always weird.
Most of you are from states that have 1 or 2 FBS level programs. Texans have a different perspective, because we have a bunch of them.
Texas is the elite football program (#3 all time in wins) with multiple post WWII national championships. A&M is like all the rest, one title in ancient times, big record of cheating, hasn't won a conference title in about 2 decades.
A&M, Tech, TCU, Baylor, Houston, SMU, etc, they're all the same. As long as we play one or two a year, we're doing our part to give the lesser state schools some exposure. Texas has no in-state rival because we have no in-state peer.

Agreed - we aren't rivals (yours is OU), we don't play anymore, and Texas is not in the SEC. So what are you doing here?

Good. Then you longhorns can continue to play Tech, TCU, Houston, etc. during rivalry week and there's no need to play Aggy.
There you have it, folks. No need to play the game.

Actually, this is how texas university views all other institutions, whether in or out of the State of Texas. It is one of the reasons why Arkansas, Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska and Texas A&M left whichever conference tu was tied to at the time. You don't play well with others. You believe that everyone else should bow down to whatever demands you see fit.
Times have changed though. This egotistical way in which you operate; showing disdain for anyone that isn't tu, just doesn't work. Unfortunately for you, in order to be successful as a program, you actually have to play competitive programs. The problem is, after decades of you looking down your nose at other programs and treating them like shite, no one likes you. No one wants to be associated with you.
So, you are stuck with Kansas, Iowa, West Virginia, Baylor and Texas Tech. You have the two schools from Oklahoma, but they are desperate for a way to break up with you.
tu is the girl who used to be hot in high school and everyone wanted to date. She treated people like shite though, people got sick of it and soon she couldn't find a steady boyfriend because of the reputation she had developed. Now, she sucks away her loneliness and Daddy issues at the local truck stop.
You're not wanted. You are a convenience frick until they find someone better.

Speaking of cheating and trying to rig the system:
LINK
They're literally trying to get the Texas Supreme Court to block (not dismiss, block) the lawsuit from the black, lesbian and handicapped former track coach who was fired for a relationship with her student while Major Applewhite was fricking a trainer on his staff and got a raise for it. They're actually claiming that the plaintiff can't provide proof that she was treated differently from other athletic coaches who did the same thing.
They know that if this case goes to court that discovery alone will destroy their athletic department. (Discovery which somehow is sealed by court order right now)
