OTHER STATS

-- Alabama reached the 10-win milestone for the ninth consecutive season Saturday. The nine straight seasons with 10 wins extends the school record, while the previous mark for most consecutive 10-win seasons was five, set by legendary head coach Paul “Bear” Bryant’s teams from 1971-75. In 121 seasons, the Crimson Tide has won 10 or more games 36 times, equaling the Oklahoma Sooners for the most 10-win seasons in college football history.

-- Alabama has played 69 games as the nation’s top-ranked team since the inception of the Associated Press poll in 1936. In those games the Tide boasts a 59-10 (.855) record. Those numbers get even more impressive when looking at the 10 seasons under the direction of Nick Saban (2007-present). Since the ninth game of the 2008 season (111 games), Alabama has played 45 games while being ranked No. 1, posting a 40-5 (.889) record during that span.

-- Yesterday’s game was Saban’s 45th career game coaching Alabama as the AP’s No. 1 team. That ties him with Bobby Bowden for the second most at one school and leaves him one shy of Woody Hayes (46). Saban is 40-5, tying Bowden and Hayes for the most wins coaching the No. 1. Bowden was 40-5 at Florida State as No. 1 and Hayes went 40-6 with Ohio State.

The difference is Saban is in his 10th season, and Bowden and Hayes spent 34 and 28 seasons at their respective schools. The Tide has been No. 1 in 33 percent of its 132 games under Saban. By comparison, Florida State was No. 1 in 10.8 percent of the 417 games Bowden coached and Ohio State was No. 1 in 16.7 percent of the 276 games coached by Hayes.

-- Alabama’s offensive performance versus Mississippi State ranks among the best single-game outings in school history. The Crimson Tide’s 397 passing yards and 31 completions both rank as the fifth-best in UA history in their respective categories. The five touchdown passes thrown by freshman Jalen Hurts ties for the second-most all-time behind the seven thrown by the Tide versus Southern Miss in 1950. The 615 yards in total offense ties for 11th in Alabama history.

-- The Crimson Tide currently leads the SEC in scoring offense (41.2), total offense (492.2), scoring defense (12.2), rushing defense (68.80) and total defense (259.5). The major areas Alabama is not ranked No. 1, it ranks in the top five -- rushing offense (2nd), passing offense (5th) and passing defense (3rd). Those are just eight examples of why the Tide is the cream of the crop in the conference this year, and, for now, the only SEC team in line for the four-team playoff.

-- It was clear to see an emphasis placed on moving the ball through the air yesterday, as Hurts threw a season-high 37 passes, completing 28 of them for 347 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. Yes, some of them were screens and jet sweeps, but Hurts ranks among the SEC’s top-three passers in throws longer than 20 (T-2nd), 30 (T-3rd), 40 (2nd), 50 (2nd) and 60 (T-2nd) yards this season, while the passing offense moves into the top five in the conference.

-- Hurts’ 100 rushing yards in yesterday’s game also gives him 735 yards, making him just the second Alabama quarterback to rush for 700 yards in a season. Hurts is 56 yards shy of tying the single-season record of 791 (Steadman Shealy, 1979).

-- ArDarius Stewart’s 156 receiving yards was a new career high in yardage for the wideout. Stewart’s previous high was 120 yards at Arkansas on Oct. 8, and his three touchdown catches equaled the Alabama single-game record. Stewart currently leads the SEC with 85.4 receiving yards per game and is tied for fifth with seven touchdowns -- in only eight games of action.

-- JK Scott improved his FBS-leading 50-yard punting percentage with punts of 54 and 62 yards versus Mississippi State on Saturday. The junior punter now has 20 punts of 50 or more yards in 36 attempts this year, a 55.6 percent average, which is tops among all FBS punters. He also leads the SEC and ranks second nationally with an average of 48.39 yards per game.

-- With five extra points in the first half today, senior placekicker Adam Griffith now has 49 PATs this season to give him 169 for his career, the second-most in school history. Jeremy Shelley (2009-12) is the career leader with 172.

That's awesome. He has been playing in a different gear this year. He looked like an NFL player playing against college defenders on that long TD run/pass he had.

He has to finally win the Ray Guy Award, right? Or is that Utah punter still there?
