Probably some fire to that smoke around the Brady dismissal.

Don't agree with this one, sorry coach. I agree with limiting where the handgun can be taken, but denying a constitutional protected right doesn't seem OK.

They are football players. They don't need to be carrying guns.

Let's not turn this into a goofy second amendment debate.

Kids don't need to own guns and it's a sad state of affairs that it had to be spelled out as a rule.

I'm so sick of the gun violence I could scream. If I could confiscate and melt every hand gun into a paperweight, I would. Let the bastards settle their differences with knives.

But that's not what his rule says. He reportedly said they can't own a gun.

There are no kids on the football team.

Of course you're correct. They're young adults.

Unfortunately too many kids have / steal guns and there ain't no putting the genie back in the bottle.

Now get the little bastards off my lawn and let me finish writing my letters to the P-D Sound Off section.

He's not denying a constitutional right. Just don't play football for Mizzou. And Mizzou is far from the only program doing so. Personally, football programs have a lot of rules that don't apply to others. I have no problem with this. I also wouldn't have a problem if they allowed them to own/carry.

It's not a constitutional right to be on the football team. If you want to be on the team, you have to follow the rules.

I'm sorry, but wtf does being a gun owner and football have to do with each other??? I've owned guns my whole life. When I was at Mizzou I owned guns. I hunted every year. I had guns living in Columbia (not on campus). Sorry, but saying that picking between constitutional rights and playing football is not the answer.

If a football player or anyone for that matter cannot follow the law, or cannot have self discipline in gun ownership, that's one thing. But, making a rule stating none of them can own guns is just as bad as laws prohibiting the 2nd amendment. You cannot legislate morality, and you cannot make rules that keep football players from making bad decisions. This does nothing but take responsibility out of these young men's hands.

I disagre.

How do you all feel about McIntyre at Colorado prohibiting his players from smoking weed?

Jesus, he's just trying to head off problems before they happen, not change the fricking constitution.

Why does everything have to be political?

He's not legislating anything. He made a team rule as the rest of your sentence states. I'm gonna bet there's also a team rule that they have to be in by a certain time on game night. If you don't like the rule, play for a coach without that rule. Bottom line is playing football is a privilege and if you don't like the rules of a certain coach, play somewhere else.

Meh. I think it's a non-issue. I'd be just as ok if he let them own guns.

Oh trust me. This will not be a non issue. Wait until the NRA gets ahold of this.

Righty gun nuts are more sensitive to these things than any group in America.

Hell, there will even be a grouping of Mizzou fans turn on him purely for this.

There are a lot of coaches who have this rule.

I agree with you. If coach wants to make this rule, he can make this rule.

But here's the reality of it: everything with "Mizzou" becomes a headline. The puppy story. Enrollment. A dorm closes. This rule from coach. And the lazy media and public decide everything based on the fact that "Mizzou is a stupid liberal school."

So while it's fine for him to have this rule (and it may just be a reaction to a situation this summer), it's going to be a story like everything else with "Mizzou" in the first sentence.
