LSU D line regressed from Pelini to Chavis. Personally, I believe the regression was due to each coaches' particular philosophy. Pelini was a more 4-3 under with man coverage with a 3-tech DL, lots of stunts, and such. Chavis was a 4-3 guy but D line was straight head to head, speed or bull rush, with pressure coming from the secondary. He did man coverage but would drop into zone at time, especially in his Mustang package, in attempt to limit yards and gain turnovers. Lighter d-line, trading speed for size. Think the Miami 4-3 over concepts.

Steele was nothing more than plugging a hole and a late hire. He runs a system much like Chavis. Think everyone saw the writing on the wall, making his jump to Auburn.
