IMO no. I don't think Chavis would have done much better, with what was on the field from a defensive line standpoint. Think of the 2013 defense we may have been marginally better but still would have gotten beaten up by Ole Miss, Bama, and Arkie. He doesn't recruit worth a damn the Aggies will see.

He left. Get over it. You sound like a bitter ex girlfriend.

Well TBH New Orleans newspapers have the worst sports coverage, so there's that

Losing him wasn't a huge blow. His lazy recruiting put is in a vine. The problem was hiring a retard to replace him

According to New Orleans newspapers Miles was in shock when he found out Chavis was leaving.

lso, do you think that the lofty projections for A&M's D-line is just coincidence or is he (Chavis) really that good.
LSU D line regressed from Pelini to Chavis. Personally, I believe the regression was due to each coaches' particular philosophy. Pelini was a more 4-3 under with man coverage with a 3-tech DL, lots of stunts, and such. Chavis was a 4-3 guy but D line was straight head to head, speed or bull rush, with pressure coming from the secondary. He did man coverage but would drop into zone at time, especially in his Mustang package, in attempt to limit yards and gain turnovers. Lighter d-line, trading speed for size. Think the Miami 4-3 over concepts.
Steele was nothing more than plugging a hole and a late hire. He runs a system much like Chavis. Think everyone saw the writing on the wall, making his jump to Auburn.

chavis was a good coordinator but a terrible recruiter. i didn't necessarily want to lose him but i wasn't overly upset about it either. of course replacing him with steele was not good.
hopefully aranda will be great.

Not at all that is always the retort from the Aggie bunch. Chavis penchant is to recruit for speed before size. He is on record as saying "I will not sacrifice speed for size" From after 2011 our front 7 began a gradual drop off. He is not a good recruiter you better have someone who can do it for him. He walked into the group he had for 2011. I do not believe him leaving was a big blow to last years team. His scheme would have made little difference to that team. It would not have beaten the 3 teams we lost to. So don't come into the thread and because I'm not crying over your coach leaving us. Him being here would have made no difference in our season outcome. That is the real answer to the OP.

A&M will have the better scoring defense for the second year in a row.

Okay good for you, and I still won't care that John Chavis is coaching for you. Oh and you will still lose to LSU. But feel good about your scoring defense buddy.

Chavis is a good coach aTm yall should feel ecstatic about having him. Yalls real question is will Kevin Sumlin be sober enough to coach this year???
