at the risk of getting fleas I have to agree with BHMKyle. the answer is Saban because he has just about matched the Bear during more competitive times. at the same time I think both of their greatnesses have been exaggerated by their circumstances. dont get me wrong they are definitely the best coaches of their times but there are a dozen coaches that would have matched their achievements given the same resources. if Bama had hired Tuberville when Stallings left he would have made a run similar to Saban's.

Yes, Tommy "The Bear" Tuberville was the greatest coach in college football history. He was so good that his teams never even held a practice. In fact, he intentionally lost some games because he had a good heart and wanted fans of other teams to feel some joy.

Tommy "The Beast" Tuberville would have probably won 20 consecutive titles at Alabama but Bama was too stupid not to see his genius. I can still recall many of his legendary nicknames...

Tommy "The Slayer" Tuberville
Tommy "The Lion" Tuberville
Tommy "The I Kill You" Tuberville
Tommy "The arse Kickin" Tuberville
Tommy "The Great One" Tuberville

And those are just the few I can remember off the fly. No coach in history will ever measure up to him. He set the standard, no doubt about it.
