As far as a decent hotel with close proximity to food and drink, preferably in walking distance? Tia

The Aloft is alright too, its more in walking distance of restaurants/bars

Southside somewhere near UAB. Walking distance to nice restaurants in five points. And a short Uber drive to lakeview.

Gardendale Fultondale just north of Birmingham. Fultondale probably has the better choices.

Redmont Hotel just got renovated and is pretty nice. Downtown.

The Tutwiler is a Nice Hotel (Hampton), but no restaurants nearby. Try something in Southside, Courtyard, Residence Inn.

Sure there are, you just have to walk a few blocks.
But I got the Redmont and Tutwitler confused. Redmont is closer to some bars and restaurants.
There's also Westin in Uptown, but there's nothing all that spectacular in Uptown.

fun places to drink
You don't like sitting and drinking at the Applebee's bar?

So then you know there is Outback,Chili's, Applebee's,Logans,s Wentzels Oysterhouse, Five Guys, and Any other Burger place you can think of and a sports bar within a block of 2 Fine Hotels right?

The Sheraton and Westin downtown has several nice restaurants and bars attached to it. They just opened a really nice Grand Bohemian hotel in Mountain Brook just outside of downtown with a cool rooftop bar and it is walking distance to Dram Whiskey Bar. Birmingham has a lot of nice downtown bars, breweries and restaurants but they are not all on the same street in a centralized nightlife district (except for Lakeview which does not have a hotel within walking distance). If you want to visit several you can always uber.

Redmont just reopened after a big renovation. Probably a good spot if you're looking to walk to nearby places.

This is the best suggestion.
Ross Bridge is a nice resort style place, if you're into that.

If you are from out of town looking for food and nightlife I would not suggest this at all. Nothing wrong with the northern suburbs but they are not exactly nightlife destinations for a traveler looking to have fun.
