Not the week that UK lost to Tennessee. Oklahoma was awarded the title the following week. It wasn't unheard of for a team to jump from #3 to #1 after a big win. Had Kentucky won over a top 10 Tennessee team, they very well could have lept over Idle Army and Oklahoma.

MAYBE.

Even so, this Oklahoma team had gone undefeated the year before and was on a 31 game winning streak (and not having won it the previous year, finishing #2 to ND). I doubt the voters would have leap frogged them, even with a UK win over UT.

That is a good point. Probably woudn't have happened....then again, in 1939, during the week of the final vote:

"November 18 #1 Tennessee extended its shutout streak, beating Vanderbilt 13-0. Having outscored its opposition, 186-0, Tennessee had a record of 8-0-0, but fell to second in the poll that followed. #2 Texas A&M won at Rice 19-0, and was #1 in the next poll."

Tennessee was undefeated in the '38 season and finished #2 in the AP poll (much like Oklahoma had done in your scenario).

Going into November 18th of the 39 season, they were #1. They on the 18th,they won but dropped from #1 to #2. They were idle the following week and dropped from #2 to #4. The following week, they beat Kentucky and jumped back to #2. So, They went undefeated and unscored on during that season but dropped from #1 to #4, then back to #2 in three consecutive weeks...

Here is what propelled aTm over UT on the 18th. ATM beat Rice (who finished the season 1-9-1) 19-0. UT beat Vanderbilt (who finished the season 2-7-1) 13-0.

Crazy shite happed back in those days during the polls. Imagine going a whole season without being scored on (after going undefeated the prior season), and you drop from #1 to #4 without playing a game.
