He tries to insert a Texas twang and it's always been cringeworthy to me and very manufactured. He was born in Calgary to parents from Cuba and Delaware and grew up/went to school in Katy and nice urban areas of Houston. He tries to make his voice sound like his ancestors were ranchers in south Texas. He's alright but that's always bothered me

It's the nasalyness of a Canadian or upper midwest accent with a manufactured twang thrown in on top of it. It's not a real accent anyone has.

That's what I'm saying, it's weird and bothers me

Total agreement.
Also, he just creeps me out in general. I liked him when he was anti-establishment and fiscally libertarian. I don't like the ultra right-wing religion-obsessed Bible-beater he's become.

My roommate at the time, who is a Longhorn (a legitimate one with an actual degree from UT, unlike the fans who post on this website), was frantically texting me from the game asking me how bad it looked and what they were showing form the locker room. The schadenfreude factor was off the charts as I explained that he didn't really seem badly injured and that Colt's dad looked to be intervening to keep him out of the game.

Mostly the wide open spaces. Everything between the Sabine and the Rio Grande.

Now that Texas A&M is in the SEC, which ostensibly competes (successfully, usually) with the Big 12 for a lot of southern talent and spots in the College Football Playoff, there’s practically no reason A&M folks would start rooting for the Longhorns under any circumstance, or vice versa. It would be wholly irrational, because they are mortal enemies.
Wow, it's nice to see the SEC usually competes successfully for recruits in the South, and the occasional National Championship against the Big 12

the only thing Ted Cruz could teach Paul Ryan about football is how to hide in the restrooms to avoid getting his arse kicked by the players.

I've lived in Louisiana, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and the North Carolina Appalachians. When I came to Colorado, people knew that I was southern, but couldn't figure out where my accent was from. But it's really just a mutt.
Thank god it's subtle. Because a thick Louisiana/Appalachian combo accent would be weird as hell.
