Agreed. The defense Auburn had in the Georgia game was pretty solid. Not that UGA was an offensive juggernaut last year... but Auburn pretty much shut our offense down. With Lawson back, it was obviously not the same Auburn defense that took the field in Baton Rouge.

If you look at all games played after Nov. 1, Auburn's defense ranked 5th in the league in both yards/game and yards/play. That takes the stats from their final 5 games of the season when Lawson was back in the lineup. And it includes 4 games against opponents that went to bowl games. The top four defenses in both of those categories from November on were Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida. Again, Auburn was 5th, right behind the Gators. Not bad considering they ranked #14 in the league in games played during September and October.

I don't think I've never seen a UGA fan reach so far to go out of their way to make their oldest rival look good.

Pretty easy to run a search for stuff like that.

Rivalry aside, it was obvious Auburn's defense was at least "average" when Lawson was healthy. It was piss poor without him. That was my overall point.

If Lawson can stay healthy all year long, then Auburn has a shot to have a Top 50 defense. Top 10 is a pipe dream, but even a Top 50 defense would be a vast improvement for Auburn under Gus.
