Point being in this day and age with Baylor and FSU and Penn State and UNC and on and on, people are itching to make a big deal out of a cover up (no matter how asinine). And while covering up underage drinking shouldn't be a big deal at all, its not the kind of negative attention you want to invite in with a new HC and a new program.

You don't have to cover anything up. Just say "there is no longer an alcohol charge pending, so we're not suspending him. We will handle any discipline internally." Rival fans type something stupid on message boards for an hour, and it's gone.

Just don't do dumb shite (or at least don't put yourself in a position to get caught) and there won't be anything to worry about

I would argue that this didn't even qualify as dumb shite.

2/3 of the under 21 kids at UGA have fake IDs and most drink. It's fricking stupid to arrest them unless they are driving or creating a violent disturbance.

Maybe if the cops weren't so busy playing gotcha, they could be more available to stop real crimes...

I don't know man, drinking to the point of drunkeness on the patio of a bar in downtown Athens as a Georgia football player is some pretty dumb shite I'm not saying the actual drinking was bad but you've got to know your environment and the risks. If you're going to drink underage, do it at a house or actually INSIDE the bar where a cop walking by can't pick you out as an easy target

Eta: now as Peter said, you an very well make the argument that the real dumb shite are the cops that play gotcha with all students downtown
