Did he really inherit that bad of a situation? I'm sure Petrino left plenty of talent behind. The problem is that John L. Smith couldn't coach it at all in 2012. Smith probably did a bad job recruiting for the 2013 class but that would affect on the field results more in 2015 and 2016 than in 2013. Not very many freshman usually start.

And the fact of the matter is that when you're 0-8 in the SEC your first year you can't do any worse the 2nd year. Heck he was 0-13 in the SEC-I might manage to get lucky and win just one conference game if I coached 13 SEC games.

Yes he had a terrible situation. Petrino was here to watch his great first class graduate and just look at the attrition of his classes. Not sure without looking but one Petrino class had like 15 guys never contribute due to being kicked off and transferring

No, he didn't. On top of the massive amount of attrition Petrino neglected both lines. He also let the receiving core turn to shite by the end of his tenure. Petrino got lucky with the in-state WR crop his first year. Bielema has far out-recruited him there.

Except they did for us. Skipper, Collins, Kirkland, Brooks Ellis and Hunter Henry all were forced to start as freshmen. Having two true freshmen and a walk-on on the OL was difficult.

I keep repeating this but guys like Tyler Wilson, Chris Gragg, Cobi Hamilton and Knile Davis all left after 2012. Not sure why people think Petrino had so much talent stockpiled behind them.
