So if your bank account was hacked because you utilize online banking, you'd just chalk it up to "Oh I shouldn't have done that online"? You wouldn't consider yourself a victim of an illegal act?

While we live in a day and age where technology is utilized for various things from video to text, there is an assumed amount of privacy we should expect if we're not the one putting that out there for public knowledge. It's why there's laws addressing hacking (see the charges filed against the guy who hacked all the celeb nude photos from the cloud recently).

It is entirely possible to feel sympathy for someone who is pretty clearly exploited from something like that.

Online banking isn't a crime. Horrible analogy.

I feel no "sympathy" for him. He was arguably the best player coming out of high school. He should've known his entire career would be under a microscope. It is entirely his fault that he took a video of himself doing something illegal. Once you do that, you should understand the possibility of it getting out and be prepared to face the consequences, no matter how shitty they may be. Once again, I am not defending the hacker. It was a shitty thing for them to do.

It's pretty telling that everyone wants to focus on the fact that he smoked weed and recorded himself rather than the fact that he was exploited and apparently blackmailed.

How would my account being hacked and money stolen cost me 7 million in a draft?

online banking

Online banking is not prohibited by law, nor by the rules of an organization of which I am a member, NOR by my prospective employer. Because it is a legal and encouraged activity, I am offered immediate protection should it become compromised.

This is not analogous to Tunsil's actions, even though there are ramifications for the person who did the hacking.

Had someone posted a covert video of him applying hemorrhoid medication, I would feel differently.

You are missing one important point, though. Nobody took millions of dollars away from him. He did not lose money because a video was posted of him. There are TONS of videos posted of him.

He lost the money because of his actions on that video.
