The Arkansas athletic department recently launched a new website detailing the FB stadium expansion. I think this is a ridiculous website for a ridiculous waste of money. I will sort the following items into "cool" vs IDGAF categories.
Cool
Not really that important, cutting $10 isn't going to change anything. Nice thought but they are also jacking them up $50 for everyone else
Not exactly thrilling, but I think its a nice thought
Thank the lord. Great idea
Can be very cool. Thought there would be a fountain with this originally though.
I like the standing room spaces, and am interested in the "culinary nods". Hopefully they don't consider Slim Chickens a "culinary nod"
Long overdue, basically only helps 500 level though
IDGAF
Glad they are adding trees, but it is still a walk through a parking lot. Not exactly scenic. Also, every team does a "____ walk" into the stadium.
Most games don't sell out anyway. Our current end zone seating hasn't been full since the Alabama game in 2010. What exactly is the supply/demand case for these tickets?
The last three games of 2015 I walked in with a beer. Guessing this will no longer be possible (jk)
Stupid, 99% of fans will never see this. Even if they do, who cares. This is just something they have to update every 10 years
Same as above
I don't think this trend will last long term. People basically "tailgating" at the stadium will be an anachronism in 20 years IMO. Who spends that kind of coin to see basically none of the game when they can do the same thing from their house?
Same as above. There is a way better social setting outside the stadium via tailgating. I can save $250 per game and have a "social setting" while watching the game (and 8 others) on a flatscreen with my own food and my own beer.
Overall this is not as big of deal as our athletic department thinks it is. Its not going to make our stadium one of the best in CFB. No recruit will come here because we are the 28th coolest stadium instead of the 34th coolest stadium
My bigger concern is it will be empty often, especially if we continue to achieve Liberty Bowls and strut around like we won the CFB playoff. Lets focus on winning instead of creating loge suites.

Every college football stadium has its signature architectural focal point. The look-in opening on the northeast corner of DWRRS is its most recognizable vantage point, allowing Arkansans throughout the years to peer onto the field to see the Razorback at midfield and the illuminated Home of the Razorbacks display.
Not exactly thrilling, but I think its a nice thought

quote:
CONNECTING EAST & WEST For the first time in the stadium’s long history, fans will be able to walk the entirety of DWRRS after the North End Zone addition connects the east and west concourses. Fans who have family and friends sitting in other areas of the stadium will have the ability to access all sides of DWRRS in a more efficient manner while improving the flow of foot traffic and easing congestion.
Thank the lord. Great idea

WILD BAND OF RAZORBACKS MONUMENT In honor of the Razorbacks' 1964 National Championship, a 20' tall by 30' wide bronze monument will be installed at the new North End Zone of DWRRS as a testament to the team's place as a symbol of strength and character for the university and state of Arkansas.
Can be very cool. Thought there would be a fountain with this originally though.

STANDING ROOM ONLY SPACES Geared toward the next generation of Razorback fans and their families, standing room only spaces will provide an open and engaging setting with the energy, atmosphere and culinary nods to the region we call home.

NEW ELEVATORS New high-capacity elevators along the stadium's northwest and northeast corners, in addition to the North End Zone, will improve fan access to all levels, especially the 500 level.
Long overdue, basically only helps 500 level though

HOG WALK & NEW ENTRANCES First impressions count. Every home needs a signature entrance and DWRSS is no exception to that rule. The renovation will enhance the front entry of the Frank Broyles Athletic Center and the stadium, while also further defining the path for the Hog Walk -- a gameday tradition which allows fans to interact with players and coaches as they enter DWRRS.
Glad they are adding trees, but it is still a walk through a parking lot. Not exactly scenic. Also, every team does a "____ walk" into the stadium.

Upon completion, the addition will increase capacity with approximately 4,800 seats in

INCREASED SECURITY & IMPROVED SAFETY In light of evolving security risks associated with recent world events and our continuing efforts to maintain the safety of all fans at DWRRS, increased safety enhancements will be made in line with current best practices.

NEW THEMED EXPERIENCES Our family-friendly themed concepts will revolutionize how fans experience Razorback Football at DWRRS. We will update the current look-and-feel of our suites and clubs throughout the stadium, along with showcasing various high points of Arkansas football history, gridiron legends, and the university's iconic standing.
Stupid, 99% of fans will never see this. Even if they do, who cares. This is just something they have to update every 10 years

RENOVATION OF EXISTING SUITES & CLUBS In addition to the new stadium amenities, the renovation will also update existing suites and clubs with decor that celebrates the heritage of the Arkansas Razorbacks and our great University. Once complete, Razorback fans in all club areas will Call the Hogs from one of the most unique and thrilling football facilities in college athletics.
Same as above

NEW NORTH END ZONE SUITES New suite experiences at DWRRS will feature the latest trends and amenities in luxury suites. In addition to south-facing sight lines that have never been seen at Razorback Stadium, suite holders will enjoy a brand new club, all-inclusive food and a one-of-a-kind social atmosphere.

NEW CLUBS & LOGE BOXES One of the most exciting aspects of the renovation is the addition of state-of-the-art club areas and loge boxes. The brand new seating opportunities will provide unique vantage points and an invigorating social setting, while further enhancing the fun of taking in a Hogs football game.

Agree on the loge suites. I don't understand the appeal of sitting in a rolling office chair and paying so much for the "opportunity". Altogether I like the project and am happier with how it looks than I did before. I wish they were a little more creative with the Hog Walk thing and added a plaza or something to NE open corner and have the team walk in over there

This design is a million times better.

If I remember correctly, you're both in your early 20's. If that's the case, you're not their target audience.

Despite what you posted, I'd love a loge suite.

It's essentially a permanent installation. Every age group will someday be the target
Also, we are a part of the generation abandoning going to games in favor of tailgating and watching at home. Which is the exact target for most of this stuff

We'll never have a giant plaza leading up to our stadium unless it is built on top of a parking structure. We have the craziest topography for a stadium around. I guess UGA's is similar.

I hate to break it to you but what you like at 25 isn't what you'll like to the letter at 35 or 45 or 55.

Couldn't agree more. I think a more important issue here is that all demographics of college football fans are rapidly. The sport is unsure of how to cater to these "new" fans of all ages, not just young people.
Fans from all age groups are changing their desired expectations for a fall Saturday on campus. Arkansas and everyone else is caught playing catch up. Tenner just released a similar plan to ours
My fear is we are making a big investment that is seeking to catch a short term trend rather than really planning our stadium for the optimal fan experience

Personally, I am the person who shows up and wants to do our traditional cheers, heckle the opponents, and see a Razorbacks win. My gameday experience is better in 2008 then now, and no amount of loge boxes will change that. I socialize from 6:30 am until kickoff, then after. But during the game I want to do traditional shite and see us actually win.
Are people like me declining in numbers? Are people like me changing and only going to games if they get tickets in a loge box? Are people like me staying home due to rising ticket prices? Who knows.
How about the more casual fan? Where are they trending? Is catering to the most casual fans prudent? To what extent?
These are the subjects our expansion and others seek to answer. I don't have answers, if you do you could probably make a lot of money by working at Populous or whatever consulting firm the CFB playoff retains. But these are the questions I evaluate our plans against, and I'm not sure they measure up in my opinion.

Personally I'm just glad that the NEZ won't be a damn eye sore anymore

doubt it, LGBT community is a booming social structure.
Seriously though, I think they are chasing the young fast cash, women and corporate dollars, not the traditional X's & O's football fan.
