I mean, who names their spring game?

Kinda funny coming from the fanbase that makes a nickname for every player on the roster.

Same. The names are utilitarian, I don't think they were really going for creativity or branding.

When a "game" such as the Alabama spring scrimmage is attended by 60-80 thousand people, it deserves a name.
It would indeed be stupid to name the LSU spring game, "the Tiger prowl" or some such trite BS, when about 5,000 homeless and unemployed are the only people to attend. Alabama has PRACTICES with more people than that in attendance.
In other words, LSU is not serious about the football.

They have to keep it simple for their fan base.
Wait, are we talking about Bama's Running of the Gumps Spring Redneck Festival or Auburn's Spring game?

Alabama tradition. Been called A-day for so long, nobody knows when it started. Captains get honored with their names and hand and foot prints put in concrete at Denny Chimes each A-day.
Here's a 1946 newspaper describing the annual A-day game. LINK
Also a little clip about the Auburn spring game. Don't know when Auburn started calling their game A-day?
Also, here's a listing of Bama's A-day games from 1946, listing winners and attendance. LINK
