(takes off SEC goggles for two seconds) Satellite Camps, what's the big deal???

-I understand they're for exposure.
-I understand the humongous advantage we SEC fans enjoy giving the recruiting territory.
-I understand we don't want opponents recruiting kids local to us.
But those advantages are all about competition, nothing more. Why would the NCAA rule in the SEC/ACCs favor to make our lives easier competitively? That, in itself, seems inherently unfair to the rest of the country, right?
Let's pretend the NCAA isn't as corrupt as we all know it is, what's the logic behind this ban from a 3rd party attempting to practice fairness? What's the harm (outside what I said above) in letting schools practice in warm weather?
I know, bring on the downvotes, jsut trying to have an honest conversation. Imagine that. Any lawyer types out there wanna chime in?

School A is rich: Can afford to set up camps in all 50 states.
School B is not rich: Can't afford to set up any camps.
NCAA says no, that does not help competitiveness.
ETA: Yes, I downvoted. You basically asked for it.

If you commit to a school, or coach at a school, that is in the north and has notoriously bad weather, you don't get to complain that it's not sunny enough for practice. You made that bed, you lie in it.
As for "fairness", road alreadyd said it. Maybe 20% of the country would be able to do as they please and practice anywhere, but the other 80+ teams simply can't do that.

Harbaugh and CUM need to stay out of the south.
I don't think LSU would like it if they were holding camps in New Orleans.
Great rule for the Aggies as the Big 12 schools were allowed to hold satellite camps in Texas.
This is a big win for the SEC.

Since when do they care about a school's resources? Why is this the advantage they won't let teams exploit?
Separate issue but same rule, this also really hurts MAC schools. Many of those guys flock to OSU campus to recruit. Sure they won't get the top guys but there's tons of guys who can play at the next step down. So how does this rule help the little guys????
Thanks your honesty, downvote away!

Um, they don't want camps because it hurts most colleges and their ability to compete. I thought we went over this.

Would you want the University of Michigan to host a game in Tampa or Orlando for recruiting purposes to begin the season every year
You mean like when Mich and UF play in Jerry World next year? Or when Bama played FSU in Jacksonville a while back? Or when Arky played in Jerry World? on and on and on

Terrific example. If Saban were holding a camp in Bogalusa, LA, do you think OP would care?

Coaches, athletic directors, etc. want to spend time with their families. If the B1G starts holding camps, SEC schools have to as well, cutting into what is basically the only slow time of year.
It wasn't just the SEC that voted against this.

Pretty much sums it up. The football arms race is out of hand as it is. Now teams (or, more accurately, a team) are having satellite camps and road trips for spring training. What next? An 'exhibition' game against another team at the end of spring?
The NCAA (correctly, IMO) recognized that this is a path they really didn't want to go down.

I know you're an alter but surely you're not dumb enough to ignore that we have kickoff classic games every year where 2 out of state teams play in a neutral city.

Because it only benefits the Big10 to come south. Southern schools don't want to have camps in those dumpy northern states

Exactly, why aren't we banning those???

so how would a school host a game out of state?
Posted on 4/8/16 at 2:25 pm to Milkman2
Explain the difference.
Do any schools own any other football stadiums outside their state where they could host a game?

Fine, I can get behind that. So why not ban camps altogether? Those are thriving and there's loads of dirty handshakes going around, we all know this, we can be honest.
My question remains, why is THIS the sticking point? Seems arbitrary.

Hell, take other conferences out of the conversation.
While Hawaii is not a traditionally talent rich state, would LSU or AU or UT fans be okay if Alabama were to decide to hold "spring training" in Honolulu during spring break?
Would UF fans be cool with Saban holding a camp in Gainesville? LSU fans okay with a Saban camp an UHigh in Baton Rouge? A&M fans okay with a Saban camp in College Station?
Alabama can financially afford to do such things; what if other SEC schools could not?
Just because this started with Harbaugh holding a few camps in the south doesn't mean that a lot of the "richer" football schools wouldn't take this and run wild with it.
It's not taking away something from northern schools. Some schools have more desirable locations than others, that's just geography.

Don't care.
I'd hope UF would host a camp in Tuscaloosa but therein lies the problem. The war gets expanded.

That's not a bad question. Is it because any school can afford to negotiate with the host site to get a game? I don't know the NCAA's stance.
I would argue that even UCF can afford to negotiate to hold a game with Arizona in Texas.
