That isn't exactly true.

2003 : 32-4 (16-0), #1 in last AP poll, #1 overall seed, lost to D. Wade and Marquette in the Elite 8
2004 : 27-5 (13-3), #2 seed, upset by UAB in 2nd round
2005 : 28-6 (14-2), #2 seed, lost in Elite 8 to Michigan State in 2 OT

They were very much a national threat until his last 2 seasons and they fired him pretty quickly after the 2nd one (2 seasons in which they still went to the NCAA tournament).
