Why are we (SEC) so bad at basketball? It makes absolutely no sense. Without Kentucky, we wouldn't have a single team in the top 20 of those rankings. Hell, we invited Missouri into the conference specifically to boost our basketball credentials and now even THEY suck. We are to basketball what the ACC is to football, although even that is giving us more credit than we deserve. Maybe more like Conference USA? People love to say, "well we're a football conference". Okay, sure, but we should be good at basketball for some of the same reasons. The population base continues to shift to the south, and just like for football, that means we should have a much larger and deeper talent pool to choose from. Our athletic facilities are becoming better and better, and the athletic departments are flush with cash for all the essentials (coaching salaries, facility upgrades, recruiting staff, etc). All of that should mean we get more than two teams in the top 25. It's a godamn embarrassment.

The problem is all these teams have to start SOMEWHERE. They overrate the big 12, the big east, they underrate the sec. The sec routinely has multiple teams playing on the 2nd weekend of the tourney and it's not just Kentucky. I mean shite, teams like Stony Brook and Yale are ranked high. I think a lot of these are just ridiculous

Missouri no doubt has been an incredible let down in basketball.
From nearly the moment they showed up to play in the SEC.
IIRC, in 2012, their first season they were preseason ranked very high, reaching Top 10 during the preconference schedule

Then collapsed and finished outside the Top 25.
