Coker probably hit 8 different Ole Miss players square in the chest. His INTs were horrendous. And even though the game was a complete shite show, there was a point at the end of the game where Alabama was kinda in control of the game.

Well Sims had a shitty game against OSU....that 4th quarter pick when we had them deep in their own territory was just a killer......but defense lost that game more than Sims

By "costly turnovers", I mean turnovers in critical situations with the game on the line. I don't recall any that were as serious as Blake Sims' turnovers against Auburn and OSU

quote:I mean, obviously both of those things are true, especially the part about the defense being most at fault for losing a game in which we scored 35 points. Anyway, whatever.

thank you.

Those turnovers against Ole miss didn't cost us the game. It didn't help us but it wasn't the reason we lost. The reason we lost is bc we were down 30-10 bc Bateman couldn't do anything

Yes, or I wouldn't have just posted that

I mean, by themselves they didn't. But no interception in the history of football by itself has cost a team a game, including any of the ones Blake Sims threw. Pretty dumb standard to use for juding picks tbh.
Let's look at Coker's picks in the Ole Miss game, shall we?
Bama down 12 on their own 29 with 11 minutes left to go in the game, Coker throws an interception, 2 plays later Ole Miss scores a touchdown to go up 19.
Was that not a costly turnover with the game on the line?
2 and a half minutes left, Bama now down 6 with the ball on their own 33, first down, coker throws another interception and Ole Miss runs the clock down to 25 seconds.
Can you honestly tell me that wasn't a costly turnover that potentially cost us the game?
I guess some fans only see what they wanna see, but how you can dismiss all of Coker's flaws and then turnaround and blame Sims for the games we lost is, again, bizarre. I won't speculate why.

I can see it's about impossible to have a conversation on here so y'all can finish this one

I will say after the Ole Miss game Coker was pretty damn reliable from that point. Of course, we had King Henry toting the rock for 30-35 carries so that took the pressure off him. Coker was still clutch when we needed him to be.
We were more pass happy with Amari and run option oriented with Blake becuase of his mobility......I think we asked more of Blake than we did from Jake

quote:When he first came in, Alabama was in serious trouble. That doesn't mean things can't change as the game progresses. I'm not trying to be too critical, I'm really not. But if I remember correctly, Coker played like shite in that game.
We were already down 20.

We gave your little shitty thread more attention than it was worth tbh. Have a tissue. (there's already a Coker v Sims thread on page 1 btw.)

This is a tough one.
Coker just had this unwillingness to lose. He was 14-0 was a starter. He had a better completion % than Sims, and had less INTs on more attempts. However, Sims had a big advantage in YPA and rushing.

I'm sure Sims wouldn't have minded trading in the 2014 Defense for the 2015 version as long as we're making comparisons.

Both for different reasons. Geaux cats!

I mean, you're not far off. I agree he played tough, made clutch plays, 3 TD passes and a rushing one, some tough runs, won the team over, etc.
But let's not forget he went 21-45 with 2 crushing 4th quarter interceptions in crucial moments. (Could have been more, as you pointed out.)
