Started a thread on him yesterday with some rumors on our end that he could be close to committing to VOLS (possibly soon) after visiting last weekend and his cousin Nigel Warrior-Carter signing with UT yesterday.

Got a crystal ball to Tennessee from Ryan Callahan today.

What are the UGA fans hearing? I know he has a very close friend and teammate committed there.

Woody Wommack also said today he is hearing Gibbs to VOLS soon.

At this point, I’d be shocked if he didn’t end up at Tennessee. The good news for UGA fans is there is a full year before NSD. Smart did a hell of a job locking this group down, so I suspect he’ll pursue Gibbs until the LOI is signed. With that said, I don’t think UGA is that far behind. Should be fun

He's going to Grayson HS with Breon Dixon (UGA commit) which is less than an hour way from Athens with a full year for Kirby and Tucker to recruit him.

Game on, bitches

As for the "he's going to commit" stuff, I'd chalk it up to post NSD excitement than anything. You don't pick a school just because some distant relative decided to go there. This one will drag out a while regardless of where he claims he is going to go in February or March of 2016

Butch has done a good job of locking down legacies. Will be interesting to watch

I don't see Gibbs as a legacy the way Warrior was. Jaden Hunter and Warrior are the sons of former players for the schools that they're going to. Gibbs is just a nephew or something of Dale Carter. A family connection, sure, but not necessarily a legacy.

Gibbs' mom is Dale Carter's sister.

A lot of people said Carter was a deadbeat bad/it wouldn't have an impact on Nigel Warrior but Butch saved his dad's jersey number for NW and yesterday NW said he will wear Warrior-Carter on the back of his jersey.

I think Butch is very, very good at selling the family stuff/legacy stuff with guys with family connections.

Todd Kelly Jr, Dillon Bates, Neiko Creamer, Kahlil McKenzie, Ryan Jenkins, Nigel Warrior etc. etc. He has landed all of them that he's wanted. This one will probably be the toughest though for sure.

Again, this isn't that father-son legacy though. Obviously the family connection will be a factor but it's not the same as having highlights of your dad being shown to you on a recruiting visit. I love my uncles to death but that relationship is light years away from the connection I feel to my dad.

Lol they aren't distant relatives, Warrior's dad and Gibbs' mother are siblings. I would bet Gibbs will commit to VOLS by the spring game at the latest. Butch will likely want him to get on board early to help recruit the class, similar to what Todd Kelly Jr did for the '14 class.

It will be interesting for sure. I believe Butch will be selling this as Legacy Class 2.0 either way.

2017 VOLS Offers

5* CB DeAngelo Gibbs - Nephew of former VOLS DB Dale Carter
4* RB Amari Rodgers - Son of former VOLS QB Tee Martin
3* RB Chase Hayden - Son of former VOLS RB Aaron Hayden
3* OL Jalen McKenzie - Son of former VOLS RB Reggie McKenzie, brother of VOLS DT Kahlil McKenzie
3* OL Isaiah Stokes - Brother of former VOLS PF Jarnell Stokes

9 Top 250 players from in-state as well. Possibly another 30+ signee class for VOLS on the way full of in-state studs and legacies.

Yea, he acknowledged that. His point stands. It would be different if Gibbs' mom suited up for the Vols.

You seem quite confident.

Butch will play it up just like UGA will play up being close to home and "being a part of the new UGA" that every school does with a staff overhaul. Its all a game

What the frick were your 90s lettermen doing when they left school? You'd think they all went out and found the baddest, most athletic women they could and put those kids in football pads the moment they popped out.

I mean there is an inbreeding, hill billy joke in here somewhere and I just need time to find it. I've never seen so many "legacies" show up to play at one school at one time.

2000 was his last year at Tennessee so they should be coming along pretty soon
