After the game he referenced an onside kick his team had tried last season, or last year? Not sure, but he said was called back because his opponents didn't have the opportunity to make a catch.

Which is not in any rule that I recall about onside kicks so I don't really know what he was talking about.

Yes, but the SC player signaled for "fair catch" on that play, therefore Clemson was obligated to allow him 2 yards of unobstructed space to allow him to field the ball cleanly. However, Clemson did NOT call fair catch last night in the Alabama game, so it is not a comparable play by any means...Dabo is a dumbass for making such a comparison.

Not knowing the rules is not just for head coaches.. it is for announcers, fans, even refs at times.

This rule about fair catch also applies to punts.

When a player signals a fair catch, the ball is not classified as "bobbled" until it hits the ground.

Think back to the "controversial" interference call on the punt in the Alabama-Notre Dame NC game and how Herbstreet-boy went all ballistic about "what is going on..." etc. In that game the Alabama receiver signaled fair catch, then bobbled the ball. But before it hit the ground he was leveled and the ball caught by a Notre Dame player. Sorry... that is interference, player must have a chance to catch the ball even if "bobbled" until it hits the ground.

But in the Ala/ND game, even the ref-in-the-press-box, Rogers Redding, "head of refs worldwide," blew the explanation somewhat and just referenced the violation of the 2-yard zone, not the illegal touching of player and ball.

By the way... that particular head of Ref association, Rogers Redding, was the ref who called the unsportsmanlike penalty for spinning the ball on Derrick Lassic in the Alabama/Miami NC game in New Orleans... one of the most ridiculous anti-Alabama calls in history.
