Linebackers were Chavis job. Chavis didn't recruit. There has been a press for linebackers since Chavis left.
That explanation plays right into the "Fire Miles" rhetoric. Chavis was an assistant. Some coaches are hands-off on gameday. That's often sensible. You don't want to handcuff a decent coordinator. But no rational coach allows an assistant to dictate recruiting to the extent that they completely ignore one of the more important positions on the field. That's not handcuffing, that's completely ignoring a problem. If Chavis wasn't recruiting LBs, Miles should have stepped in and fixed that problem with extreme prejudice.

I don't think any of us will argue with you on this. However, Miles has a history of correcting problems like this a year or two too late.
The concerning thing is, I wonder if he would have done anything about Brick by now if Chavis had stayed. He was coming in 2nd or 3rd for every top player he recruited, and then reached for guys late. All of those guys are now gone due to discipline issues or just not being that great. The multiple interview comments out of MN concerning D. Hunter and how poorly he was coached are also pretty damning.
LB isn't the only position where a guy got complacent and Miles moved too slow. He did the same with Studs. He let our O Line recruiting drop off a cliff. We had no depth there for a while. Thanks to Grimes righting that ship, next year will be the first in a few where everyone should be playing their natural positions, and not having to be shuffled around.

The LB situation has a number of roots.
First Chavis laziness in recruiting combined with the fact that our base essentially with him was nickel and one of the LBs would be a converted safety due to him preferring small quick LBs.
Second in louisiana it just isnt fashionable for those type of athletes to be on the defensive side of the ball. Look at Fournette-wanted to be RB. Back to Charles Scott, Keiland williams. Guys in that mold are playing RB.
The three linebacker "misses" from Louisiana are Tim Williams who we cooled on and was recruited to play D end and is a pass rushing olb. And Denzell Devall who didnt fit Chavis' system whatsoever. Up until now the only LB that would have fit us is Kenny Young.
The biggest recruit for us this year is Kendall Beckwith
