I keep hearing his name followed by the fact that we can't get him. Anyone in the know, hear as to why? Simply more interested in Texas? If so, all because he was a GA there. Didn't even play, graduate, or have a paid position there.

Why would he leave right now, after seeing what happened to the last Houston coach to go to A&M. Maybe, just maybe, he likes being in a job without meddling boosters.

Take off your maroon colored glasses and honestly look at what's going on here and at what jobs will be potentially open next year, what would you do?
Posted on 1/3/16 at 1:36 pm to Agforlife
I wouldn't take a job at A&M in any capacity right now.

From what I hear, he'd leave right now for Texas. You honestly think their boosters and program are any better?

Their boosters don't punish the coach by cutting off recruiting resources. Ours do.

I wouldn't leave a $3 million a year job at UH for A&M right now and I WENT TO A&M.

The issues with Sumlin are 100% on Sumlin.
What happened to the last UH coach is that he was signed to a nice contract then immediately given a stupid fat raise after 1 year of success. If he replicates what he did at UH here, then he'll be one of the highest paid coaches in the nation, if he isn't already when he signs on.
He's not even making 3 M a year at UH. Money talks, if he feels like he can succeed & feel comfortable here then why would he turn it down?

I've openly said I think A&M has been the problem as far as having success. But would u care to elaborate specifically. What have they done?

I've had friends work at A&M over the years in different departments. 3 words: "toxic work environment"

Again look at this objectively, in terms off overall perception, where would you go if you had no real ties to either school? Don't get me wrong I'm an Ag through and through but even I have to admit the Texas job carries more weight right now. Maybe in the future that will change but that's not a given either.
Posted on 1/3/16 at 1:44 pm to Agforlife
I wouldn't go anywhere near Texas either.
Again, TOXIC WORK ENVIRONMENT
Again, TOXIC WORK ENVIRONMENT

I agree, but if the rumors are true, A&M would be hiring now. While I think Strong won't succeed, an 8 win year saves his job, and they were close this year.

Man I have family that has worked at A&M for decades, everything from professors to grounds keepers, and for the most they say it's a good place to work but you have to play the politics game to survive and if that's what you're calling toxic then yeah I agree with you.
Posted on 1/3/16 at 1:48 pm to Agforlife
When politics trumps merit and performance, that's toxic.

I've heard that unless Strong basically wins the conference he's out. It isn't about wins/losses at this point. Strong doesn't play the game and dance for them.

Would that be a s#$t storm. Firing a black coach who just went from 5-7 to 8-4?
Posted on 1/3/16 at 1:52 pm to WRTC
We are trying to do the same so I doubt it
Posted on 1/3/16 at 1:53 pm to WRTC
8-4 unequivocally gets him fired according to orange bloods and shaggybevo.
And the Texas program is run by about 25-30 rich white guys between the ages of 50-85. They don't give a shite about what people think of them firing a black guy.

Our coach has regressed from where he started, and has the same record as last year, with embarrassing defeats. Not the same at all, actually.
