For the first time in many moons, I am expecting an Eastern division title and minimum of 10 wins. It's put up or shut up time for Butch Jones. VOLS have a top 5 roster in CFB, catch Alabama and Florida both in Neyland and we are no longer that young.

With the exception of the top 5 roster, I think this *should* be the opinion of most UT fans. Realistically, if they don't win the east and have at least an outside shot at the playoffs, I would be pissed were I a UT fan. With UF possibly gaining momentum with another good season next year, UGA replacing staff and uncertain, it's time to capitalize or GTFO.

Follow up question though: If UT fails to produce next season, do you still consider Butch a good hire or just another in a string of bad hires following letting Fulmer go?

The only teams in the country that I would say have more talented depth than VOLS next year would be Alabama, Ohio State and maybe LSU.

Agree.

Even if Butch doesn't get Tennessee over the hump with an SECC, it still can't be grouped in with the Dooley hire. Jones inherited a flaming dumpster fire with no extinguisher in sight and will at least leave the cupboard stocked for the next guy.

Good Question. This is the judgment year. He gets free passes for his blunders so far (assuming he learns from them) If we win 7-8 games next season, most will realize that he is a above average recruiter, a decent coach, and someone who embraced the players, program, and fanbase as best he could. But one that cannot get the program to where our expectations are (IMO: be in the top 3 in the east every year, win the east 1 out of every 3 years, SECC 1 every 4-5 years, mentioned in playoff contention) etc. He will not be considered a bad hire, and he didn't do anything to intentionally screw up the program like Dooley and Kiffin did. Id say a solid hire who stocked the cupboard for the next guy but just couldn't get it done in the way we wanted to.
