He's right though.
The way the NCAA did this its going to frick quite a few schools and help others b/c there is no real oversight on how a school comes up with its cost of living.
Problem is the AD really has no control over it b/c that's something the school itself sets.
It'll be like pulling teeth to get A&M to change it b/c that would drop us down all those top ROI lists the admin loves to jerk off to.
Current SEC COAs according to the article
01. Tennessee $5,666
02. Auburn $5,586
03. Alabama $5,386
04. Miss. State $5,156
05. Mississippi $4,890
06. Arkansas $4,500
07. Missouri $4,290
08. South Carolina $4,201
09. Florida $3,830
10. LSU $3,800
11. Georgia $3,746
12. Kentucky $3,598
13. Texas A&M $3,528
14. Vanderbilt declined to provide
I mean come on, does anyone really believe you'd spend about $2k more living in Auburn than College Station?

If you're from out of state perhaps.
Auburn is basically west Georgia

You're missing the point. If an 18 year old is looking at Auburn and A&M and everything is equal the odds are that $2k extra in the stipend will be enough to break the tie.
Also, the out of state bit doesnt have anything to do with the size of their stipend. The school sets the average and all players get the same amount.
Again, I have a very hard time believing the average student would spend $2k more living in Auburn or Tuscaloosa than they would living in College Station.

Wouldn't surprise me that our administration has no idea what they are doing here.

The administration has never considered setting the COA based off of football players.
It's set for the ENTIRE student population.
While I wouldn't be surprised that A&M's is artificially low b/c they love touting those ROI numbers its asinine to think they don't know what they are doing when they come up with the COA.

Alabama is one of several schools that has already raised their COA some 39% according to this article. Those guys are winners. I think they have maybe 6 starters on their whole roster from Alabama, so they knew they had to attract kids from out of state with $$$. Unfortunaltey many of those kids are going to be from Texas.

Wouldn't surprise me either.

1. I think this is hurting our recruiting.
2. I think this pits the AD (well at least the football staff, I don't think Hyman cares about A&M at all) against the University at large, for the reason discussed above. A&M has clearly decided to focus its marketing around the 'Return on Investment' number, and in the process it has "gamed" that number as much as it could in the past several years. Upping the Cost of Attendance stipend would require the partial undoing of a long-term plan on the University side.

Well the people at the top will have to decide what piece of vanity they prefer- a good football program or bullet point ROI metrics on the Powerpoint.
The good thing for us is that will make it clear where the priorities lie. If that number doesn't get adjusted before the Big 12 GOR ends than the last person needs to turn out the lights on the football program.
