If Kul is as good as gone, wouldn't it make sense to hire someone

who Kul specifically coached at Mizzou?
Wouldn't it make sense to hire a former Mizzou player to attempt to replicate Kul's coaching style?
Essentially, wouldn't it make sense to attempt to keep the Kul philosophy going at Mizzou?

You go get the best DL coach you can get. The position should be attractive with the history we have there. Not too mention the players we have there now.

We should hire coach Kul

It appears he's gone no matter what we offer...

Why would he stay when he knows Odom is going to have his hand on the defense and not give him total control. Plus, he and Odom aren't really that close.

Why did Smart stay for nearly a decade as DC at BAMA. If Odom is really one of the brightest defensive minds in college football, which is something that people like GP have said, then there can be great benefit to staying.

Sounds like he's butthurt. If he leaves. He leaves. It will suck, but what can you do?

Kul is brighter...

I don't know about that. Just based on GP's actions, I think Kul is a fantastic DL coach. But maybe he lacks other characteristics that would make him a good DC. Pinkel passed him over for the DC role a least twice - when he promoted Steck and when he hired Odom. He obviously wanted to retain Kul, but not enough to give him the coordinator role. There has to be a reason.
I love Lul, would want him to stay and would like to give him the role and see if he can do it. His departure will leave a huge hole. But, Odom won't be lost without him.

Yet we always criticized Pinkel for making poor decisions and failing to play the best person at each position.
See where I'm going, Semo?

It seems to me coaching DL is about working with skills and teaching technique while DC is about overall strategy. Maybe pinkel and others didn't think Kul's skill set didn't fit for DC.
He will be great if he is coaching a line in the NFL. I wish him the best.

I thought Kul wasn't going anywhere. Odom would be cutting his own throat letting Kul out of his grasp. He's what drives "Mizzou Made".

My criticism of Pinkel was more for his stubbornness, failing to make changes when something wasn't working.
Maybe paulie is right, and he believes Kul's skills aren't as well suited for a strategic role. So, fine, pay him what it takes to keep him, expand his role in some way. See what happens.

Right. He's obviously great at teaching technique but who knows about his X and O ability?
That being said, Odom could help him with that if it's an issue.

I'm sure they are trying like hell to keep him.
If he wants out then there isn't much you can do.

To me this was one of the highlights of Odom's press conference and interviews - he's going to be flexible.
He'll tailor to the offense to the personnel. Love it.

I know BO worked with Ofodile before and I assume thy had a good working relationship. But I would have real issues bringing someone in staff who has been openly critical of the program. Weren't there some ugly things said about his son's recruitment and why he chose Oregon? Or am I dreaming?
