Mizzou just became a training wheels football program

So Mack Rhoades (Mizzou's AD) was able to hire two star coaches at Houston (Sumlin and Herman), but he had to settle on a "true son" with no head coaching experience at Mizzou? Mizzou fans have repeatedly said Mizzou was a top 25 program. Do top 25 programs settle? Typically, top 25 programs have no difficulties hiring top coaching talent.
Here's the brutal truth: Pinkel's terrible season (looking at you Ricker and Henson) and the BLM fiasco rightly or wrongly blackballed the Mizzou program as a place no good coach would consider.
Pinkel's blind loyalty to his coaches (for which he's so praised for in the media) cost us the season. He knew Henson and Ricker (OC and O-Line Coach) were completely inept at the beginning of the season but he refused to make adjustments to the coaching staff. He refused to play the best players (for example, Tyler Hunt). He refused to try something, anything, different on offense.
And then the BLM chaos and Pinkel's resignation due to the BLM pressure (make no mistake, he announced his resignation early due to the BLM crap, not cancer) certainly made Mizzou's program the laughing stock of college football. Yes, Pinkel has cancer. But if he knew about it since May, why would he announce his resignation at the height of the BLM protests instead at the end of the season?
I recently asked Mizzou fans a simple question: If you were a head coach looking for a better job, would you consider Mizzou with all the chaos we've experienced in the past 2 months?
Most of their responses were hateful and willfully blind. Most Mizzou fans weren't honest with themselves and their responses. Most Mizzou fans believe the BLM fiasco had no effect on the coaching search. They refer to the BLM mess as back page news that everyone has now forgotten. LOL.
The truth of the matter is that Mizzou didn't hire a homerun coach. You're a fool if you argue that Odom is a homerun hire. He's been good with defenses the past two years, but he's not yet a homerun hire. Mizzou shouldn't have considered him until he had a few years of proven head coaching experience at another school.
The true star of the defense was Coach Kul (D-Line Coach), who by the way was a star long before Odom came to Mizzou. It's not like Odom turned Kul into a star last year. The reality is that Kul made Odom's defense FAR better and Odom received most of the credit.
Odom was simply a backup plan. Mizzou hired the backup plan because we couldn't hire the homerun.
How does that make Mizzou fans truly feel?
Houston...fricking Houston...hired two star coaches in the past 5 years, but Mizzou can't hire a star coach after winning back-to-back SEC East championships in the past 3 years? Mizzou can't hire a star coach with the same AD who hired Houston's star coaches? So, you're telling me that it makes sense that Rhoades could hire two incredible coaches at Houston but can't accomplish the same at Mizzou with Mizzou's SEC money, access to SEC recruits, and supposed "stellar" reputation?
bullshite...and they know it.
Look, I hope Odom does well. I really do! I want to see Mizzou succeed as much as anyone. But I must be honest and tell it the way it is.
Here's what's happened in less than a year:
- Back-to-back SEC Champs to worst offense EVER with best defense EVER. Unbelievable.
- Pinkel refuses to make coaching, player, or play calling adjustments and pretty much concedes the season.
- BLM singlehandedly destroys Mizzou's national reputation, forces Mizzou leadership and Gary Pinkel to resign.
- Mizzou's AD is unable to hire a homerun coach or any decent coach with actual head coaching experience and settles on our backup plan.
- Mizzou likely to lose Coach Kul, the true star coach on the entire staff.
- Mizzou fans rejoice as if we just won the lottery all while knowing deep inside that we lost the lottery due to negative perceptions about Mizzou.
Mizzou fans can thank Pinkel for the mess. Mizzou fans can thank Pinkel for destroying the program in less than a year. Mizzou fans can thank Pinkel for choosing the wrong side during the BLM fiasco.
What's crazy is that Mizzou will probably build a statue of Pinkel and/or name a building after him.
And yet Mizzou fans celebrate as if they won the coaching lottery.
Sad.

No worries. I just posted what every Mizzou fan is truly thinking....

You said that we'd contend for the playoffs this year and that our freashmen QB would wreck havoc on the SEC. We went 5-7, had a SJW movement, and lost one of greatest coaches ever.
Now you are freaking out over our coaching hire and saying that we will be a dumpster fire for years to come.
This pleases me.

Houston has more access to quality recruits within 50 miles of campus than Mizzou has in their entire state. Your SEC recruit access argument is moot.
Herman will be a force in Texas recruiting for many years to come. TCU Baylor Texas and A&M should all worry if he makes Houston his home long term.

No you didn't. You posted what you are thinking.
Remember when you predicted Mizzou would make the playoffs and then we went 5-7? That's another example of posting what you were thinking.

I take it you didn't like the hire?

Bringing the heat on your alma mater in a grammatically persuasive manner. I like this.
Most LSU fans have trouble stringing two coherent sentences together.

Can we get a TL;DR summary, please?

Yup, if Killz doesn't like the hire them Odom is assured to be a success!

The 2 coaches you keep referring to...
Didn't he give them their first head coaching gigs?
Maybe the guy has an eye for talent?

I think it all comes down to the embarrassing BLM stuff. If that hadn't happened I think Mizzou would have made a respectable hire. I think this dude is just a bridge to whoever they hire in a year or two.

Apparently he does, and all Mizzou fans should hope and pray that Odom is a good fit because if he isn't the program will fall faster than most to the cellar of the SEC.

What the frick does "grammatically persuasive" mean?

Only people who are grammatically attuned individuals know...apparently you aren't one of them.

I thought you were now a Bama fan?

I know people in Memphis think VERY highly of Odom, and it appears that the people in Missouri do, too. He very well could end up being an excellent head coach. We already know that he's an elite DC.

Odom was Memphis' top target, so there is that.
