Yeah I think you always hear that kind of thing and it sounds good but there is really nothing to it. I doubt a team playing in a bowl or city in some particular region causes potential players to actually choose to play for that school to the exclusion of others. I've certainly never seen any empirical evidence to support it.

If that theory is true, wouldn't playing in Florida yield us as many recruits? And all of these games are televised in any event.

It does help. For starters, you can invite local recruits to practice. I don't understand your question with Florida, but I doubt that anyone would choose Memphis for recruiting purposes. Since it's on the Arkansas border, we'll probably have more Arkansas recruits, but there is a major 2017 OT we're recruiting in the area.

The problem I have is that we don't hardly recruit Memphis. Some say that we haven't since Albert Means, while others mention Penny Hardaway. Regardless of the reason, we haven't recruited Memphis hard since long before Bielema, imo.

We've spot recruited in Memphis with guys like Ken Hamlin and Tenarius Wright. We haven't exactly been mining the area, but there's talent there.

I grew up 30 minutes outside of Memphis and can effectively say that it has the same problem that East Arkansas does -- there are some great athletes there, but they're just not playing football.

We're also having the same problem recruiting Memphis that Tennessee does when Ole Miss is half decent. It's tough to ask a player to trek all the way across a state and into the mountains when Oxford is right there.
