The only way Baylor ever makes the playoffs if they aren't undefeated is to actually schedule someone worth a pulse in nonconference.

I'm very aware Baylor's playoff shot is very grim. last year made it clear the committee will favor the big 10 and name brands. the talking heads are currently debating who would be taken between two loss stanford and 1 loss Baylor. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they took 2 loss Stanford, the committee has already shown they value a nonconference schedule that is 3 cupcakes and 1 mediocre power 5 as better than 3 cupcakes. even if you lose to the mediocre power 5 team at home.

Barring that, since Art Briles has repeatedly insisted on playing the weakest of nonconference schedules and actively thumbing his nose at the playoff committee, Baylor will continue to be ranked outside of the top four.

Art Briles doesn't schedule teams. ADs do that. Briles is spinning it for his team and campaign, would you prefer him say "yeah we beat nobody out of conference, we don't deserve your respect." Who the hell knows how Briles actually feels about it. Baylor was ranked 5 last year for several reasons, and not all of them were fair. It was extraordinarily convenient for the committee to finally place Baylor ahead of TCU and therefore honor the head to head at the exact moment they could swoop Ohio St into the spot that actually mattered.

ANY time period, in which A&M, Texas, and Oklahoma have all been good to great at the same time.

it is cute as hell you are pretending A&M was one of the 3 powers of the big 12. do you actually think anyone buys that garbage?

The ACC is becoming more balanced

now you are just being ridiculous. The ACC is garbage. this is precisely why it's so disgusting ND is in consideration for a playoff spot. They played 6 ACC teams, ND IS an ACC team. Clemson and ND both in the playoff is two ACC teams in a 4 team playoff, and is cosmically ridiculous considering the ACC is far and away the weakest power 5 conference. The second weakest conference is the big 10. Iowa is a solid team with a joke schedule. Clemson to a degree also.

The Pac and SEC are both suffering down years, but in entirely opposite ways. The SEC is providing one viable playoff candidate, the pac12 has a pile of competitive teams that are mauling each other. the Pac12 also schedules so much tougher than everyone else. by the end of the year Stanford will have played 11 power 5 teams + ND. Alabama will end up with just 10 power 5. Alabama would have two losses with Stanford's schedule.
