rivalry is defined as competition for the same objective or for superiority in the same field.
i'd say its a rivalry
i'd say its a rivalry

Why even bother saying this shite?

Why even bother saying this shite? Before Saban, LSU was ranked #13 nationally in all-time win%.
Just because you're ignorant of LSU's history, doesn't mean that whatever bullshite you say about them is true.
Here's an objective site that puts LSU at #11 all-time as early as 1970:

You're ignorant, just admit it.

Tennessee is only a rival because it was a tough game every year for decades.
I don't remember Tennessee and Florida fans bitching about who's whose rival and whatnot in the 1990s-2000s. Those two teams barely played 20 games before SEC expansion, and now no one denies the rivalry element to the game - even though it's long since been a competitive game.
Why are LSU and Alabama fans so pissy when it comes to 'rivals'?

I'm not going to get as fired up at WT about it but he's right, you don't know what you're talking about.

Before Saban, LSU was a solid, above-average program historically with one elite run in the 50s. You were equivalent to Auburn, GTech, Clemson, etc. 15-25 range.
According to the College Football Warehouse we were the 14th best program in college football history entering the 2000 season. We are now the 2nd most accomplished program in SEC history and the 9th most in college football history. We are also the only SEC team that has been consistently competitive this century. You may not like that, you may have a psychological desire to minimize our achievements, but don't think we all aren't laughing at you for being so delusionally prideful.

The bold part is simply wrong.

No, I found two sites that put LSU in the 10-15 range for a period WAY before Saban was even coaching football.

I don't have a problem, I'm talking about your problem:

My assessment was fair and accurate
No, it isn't. You just pontificate with no actual information. That's what we call a "blowhard" over here in Louisiana.

You want to argue they should've been #13, that's fine. I won't even argue against you. What's the deal?
No, my argument is that LSU has pretty much been a top-10 program for the last 50 years and that for some reason, doesn't get any recognition for it. And for some other reason, blowhards like you like you talk out of your arse about LSU.
How about this, when it comes to LSU, just keep your mouth shut as you obviously don't know what you're talking about.

I'm not as bothered as you, and I'm not gonna be. And I bet I know more and can be more objective than you. So just relax, quit insulting, quit saying I KNOW NOTHING DUMBASS AND SHOULD SHUT UP HURR DURR, and present your case
How about this, when it comes to LSU, just keep your mouth shut as you obviously don't know what you're talking about.

LSU has one West Title since 2008. And they weren't the best team in the league that year either.
LSU won the SEC and was undefeated.

well, unfortunately, SEC titles are won on the field and not on a message board

National Title was won on the field too

In short, if saban and miles left next year and both teams sucked I wouldn't look at the game any different from other games but UT and Auburn would still have significance
in short, if Tennessee wasn't second all-time in SEC titles and had the historical success of Mississippi State, TSIO wouldn't be significant whatsoever. Rivalries that are not natural in-state rivalries are born from competition. There is nothing innate about any rivalry Alabama has outside Auburn. And the longer Tennessee sucks and the longer they go without winning a game and the longer the LSU game remains the most important game on your schedule, the more of a rivalry LSU/Alabama will become. All non-natural rivalries start somewhere.

During the Saban & Miles eras of LSU football, when LSU wins in Tuscaloosa, LSU wins the SEC west. 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2011.

Honestly, taking off the P&G glasses, Alabama is a bigger rival to LSU than LSU is to Bama. No one owns a better head to head record vs LSU over such a period than Bama. Bama ran off the winningest coach in LSU history (before Les). Bama beat us for (I think) 2 decades straight in our home stadium. They are the only team with more historical relevancy in our conference than us. Now since 2000, Bama has had to take LSU more seriously. Surely it could be called a rivalry but I think LSU hates Bama more than Bama hates LSU. I don't hate bama as much as I respect them. I "hate/dislike" some of the younger fanbase just from the stubbornness/idiocy of the ones I have experienced in my 2 trips to t-town plus some of the visits they have made here but I could say the same for a wealth of people from my own fanbase. The older fans at bama I have met have been nothing but class.
This is the game I look forward to the most/am nervous about the most going into every season. it is the game I want to win the most. 21-0 will be in my memory forever but so will 9-6. I was there to greet the plane when the tigers finally broke the losing streak against the tide in tuscaloosa in the 90s and I was there when we finally beat them in DV.
IMO it is a rivalry, at least to me. Rivalry doesn't necessarily include hatrid. St. Amant v EA was the first football rivalry I have ever been a part of. I grew up a huge STA fan and there was some gamesmanship between the fans and the players, but many were family or childhood friends. Certainly didn't hate one another but did fight like hell for one game. Literally defined their seasons when they had bad years. So to me I view Alabama as a rival, but understand if their fans don't see it the same.
