Isn't his dad fighting cancer right now?
Hopefully, Mauk can pull his life together.
Yup.
Say what you will, but a young man whose dad and lifelong coach is fighting cancer coupled with tremendous pressure of a team with WRs who can't catch, an O-line that crumbles and a MASH unit at running back, and a fanbase and campus all blaming the QB and clamoring for his touted young backup to take over, all coming to a head with a loss at Kentucky...look, it's not too hard to see a young college kid doing something really really stupid to take the edge off over the weekend.
Who knows what his past history was with it, if that's what happened, but we all know plenty of high school kids next door and college kids in this country who have had problems of this kind. As others have said, if this is what has happened, main thing is to wish him and his father well and hope he gets help.

Sorry but excuses watched my dad die in front of me and did not result in me doing lines to "fight the pain". He was given the helm of a D-I football team and IF he was coking up or even dealing then I have ZERO sympathy for him. Sure hope he cleans up if true and hope his dad gets better but enough coddling him. He was a douche as a QB and never improved his skills, so no free ride there either.

Cry me a river, enabler.
I'm sure Maty's (alleged) selfish behavior is doing wonders for Mike Mauk's mental stress level as the family helps him prepare for the fight for his life.
And if it's true and he ran to drugs to "take the edge off", he's in own fight for his life. The world is littered with Steve Howe's and Darryl Strawberry's whose lives were been consumed by it. Hopefully it's either untrue or he gets help before it's a life problem.
