This suspension may go on for a while... perhaps permanently.

Damn...those are strong words.

Although, hardly worth another thread on Mauk...we already have 50+ threads.

Anyone willing to bet that Gabe didn't pull this out of his arse?

Gabe doesn't pull things out of his arse. I'd bet is is pretty reliable, and the expectations of those around the program right now. Makes me think the transfer rumors could be legit.

I wouldn't say its pulling it out of his arse, but I'd imagine it is assuming that Lock plays well enough to get the win.

Reread the quote.

My guess is Gabe knows exactly what went down, but won't report "rumors", which is what it all is until Mauk or Mizzou make a statement. If he is on record as saying Mauk played his last game regardless of Lock's performance, I'd bet he is right.

"Started" not "Played".

Choice of wording.

Very astute...... There is definitely a world of difference between the two. Will be interesting to see if MM would stay with the team as a QB2(or 3 or 4)......

Very interesting indeed. Can't say we have any previous experiences under Pinkel to draw on. This is obviously a wrench in any other situations that we have seen regarding starting QB's. Just have to wait and see what comes after the game I guess.

Agree but I'm betting Gabe meant both

I don't think so, I think he meant started (not played) and I'm pretty sure he made the comment on other shows this week and prefaced by saying it was purely conjecture on his part and he doesn't have any "inside info".

You might watch this weeks Tiger sidelines I think he discussed the same there and on the radio this week.

I think he did pull that out of his arse though, I think he said it's just his "guess", I think Gabe just see's the same thing I do, when Lock comes on we have a very different offense because he's capable of running so much more of it than MM is, I believe he's riding his gut on this one.

There's a difference between conjecture and pulling things out of your arse. The latter means you have no basis for your conclusion. All the Mizzou writers have said they know things they can't write about.

Could Mauk move to the slot/hb. Similar to what Ohio State is trying. I'm sure his hands are better than some we are playing now and he already bows the playbook.

He's pretty quick for a QB. We have probably 10 WR that are faster than him.

If Mauk's not going to be the starting QB, he needs to transfer. It would be best for everyone involved. Mauk on the sideline would be a huge distraction. In his mind, this is his team and he would cause problems in the locker room.

I hope for his sake, he transfers and gets his stuff together.

but he specifically mentioned in this case he doesn't know anything else, he knows Mauk has been in trouble before, as do any of us that pay attention, (the scooter incident), unless he said differently on the PM boards, which I don't go on, but what he has said publicly on radio and the Inet is what I have said.

Matter said some things in his chat yesterday that echo this. He said he knows things, but knowing them and having a credible source so he can write about it are two different things, and he won't write about it based on rumors - even rumors he's pretty certain are true. No one will speak about it on the record. He approached the Mauk family, and they will not make a statement about the suspension. Here are a couple of interesting quotes:

quote:

There are certainly rumblings, and I've been told things that I believe to be true. However, in a case like this that doesn't involve a legal matter (i.e. police documentation) for me to report what fully happened, I need to hear something on the record from someone intimately involved with the decision, either a coach, administrator or Mauk and/or his family. That hasn't happened yet, and I don't expect it will. Anonymous sources won't cut it for me in this situation unless I'm absolutely convinced by an impeccable source. I've touched base with the Mauk family. They're not prepared to discuss the situation publicly. They're obviously dealing with a lot right now with Mike Mauk going through cancer treatment. That's the best way I can explain the situation from this reporter's perspective.

quote:

I'd be slightly surprised if Mauk regains his starting job by next week. Just guesswork here. If Lock plays reasonably well and the coaches believe he gives the team a better chance to win, then maybe we've seen Mauk's last Mizzou snap. But that's just a hunch.

quote:

Yes, he's a more accurate thrower and throws a more catchable pass. There are things that Mauk can do that Lock can't, but as a pure passer, the freshman has better touch on short, intermediate and deep throws. He won't be perfect, but I think you'll see a crisper passing game.

quote:

Hello Dave. Is Mauk's suspension and the other player's (can't remember his name) suspension related?

Put it this way: I don't believe they're unrelated.

Why do I get this weird feeling that Mauk probably spouted off about the fans and media and some of the players wanting to see Lock play more or start over him. He might have said something derogatory and broke the team and family atmosphere. (jmho)

It's strange that when Mauk's pops got out of the hospital that he had on a Mizzou jersey with a big smile on his face.(the jersey part is what I'm talking about.
