I'm a huge fan of history mainly military history. I am also a fan of the defeated most of the time ( Confederate Army or The Wehrmacht in this case). I do not necessarily agree with the Political backings of these armies, but valor none the less was earned for the soldiers of these armies. My question is which army would you have a better of surviving in if you were to be in the Confederate Army from 1864 through eventual surrender in April of 1865 or the German Wehrmacht after the invasion in Normandy (You could be on the Eastern front fighting the Russians) from 1944-1945? Just a what if and was wondering opinions and takes. Thanks.

Touch choice. The Confederate army was subsiding on basically no food by that point and most had no shoes. If you were on the Western Front in World War II, I think that would be vastly preferable to being in the American Civil War. You could easily surrender to the Americans, as most did. If you were on the Eastern Front, I think that would be worse than the Civil War. That may be the worst military suffering in modern history.

Gotta go with the Confederate Army. At least you stood a chance of walking away at the end. The Germans who were caught by the Russians were generally exterminated on the spot. Plus, if I decided to walk out the Germans would have shot me on sight. In the Confederate Army you slink off into the woods to take a leak and never come back.

Just talking surviving and trying to fight till the end, no desserting or getting captured, just purely surviving.... I think the Confederate army would be easier because seriously they had an army to surrender, in Berlin the German people fought to the end. Women, children and old men were fighting. There was no army left.

There were confederate soldiers who just got up and went home. A harder choice for the Germans.

I'd rather be a confederate. Most of those Germans on the Eastern front never went home, even if they survived to the end of the war.

If I was on the western front I would take the Whermacht...if I had to fight the Russian army I would take the confederacy. IMO the Dumbest move in modern military history was Nazi Germany invading Soviet Russia. Should have taken England out of the war first before turning towards Russia. Also declaring war on the United States was stupid.

Russia was always looking west into Europe. The war between the 2 was inevitable. Therefore Hitler struck first to try and get the upper hand. Before fighting off a Britain US invasion it had to secure its backside. It was actually not to far off from knocking the russians out of the fight but made some strategic blunders, for instance not focusing on Moscow. With the Russians out of the war the Brits and Dough boys would have never stood a chance.

Being a Japanese soldier in the latter stages of the Pacific war was vastly worse than even the Eastern front.
Little resupply, disease, and near certain death when U.S. Forces finally came calling.

Nope. That one is the 2nd dumbest move.
The dumbest move was Hirohito bombing Pearl Harbor

Very true. If you were on the Eastern Front, you had a slim chance of surviving, in the Imperial army the combined forces of the US military and the Bushido code pretty much meant you were dying in a cave in the Pacific.
