The mystery of Brandon Allen

I was just looking at his stats because, despite our record, on paper it looks like he's having a very good year. Four games in to the season and he's completing 70.1% of his passes and already has thrown for 1,141 yards. Pretty solid numbers.
However, as we've all come to know, it's a tale of two halves with him.
1st half Brandon:
79.7% completion percentage
744 yards
7 TD's
2 Interceptions
2nd half Brandon:
58.4% completion percentage
398 yards
0 TD's
1 interception
It's crazy what a different player he becomes in the 2nd half. Now 58% in the second half is still significantly better than what he did last year but if he could just not fall off 20% then the sky would be the limit for that kid.
Very frustrating.

Yeah, its almost as if when teams are trying to come from behind in the second halves their offense become more predictable and DC are able to sell out on stopping one thing done by the offense.

I mean I get that but a 20% drop off and 300 yards is a pretty significant difference. Whether you're becoming one dimensional or not.
I should probably clarify my stance that I'm not one of those folks that thinks we should bench BA. I don't think he's the problem at all outside of two poorly thrown passes. I just thought this was an interesting stat.

I'm just saying it doesn't matter who the QB is, with Bert's philosophy your are either passing to even up the game or passing in obvious pass situations to sustain drives in the second half.

True. I thought Enos called a fantastic game personally. He kept them off balance enough that we could have gone either direction in that situation. Sprinkle was wide open and Allen had made that throw all night so it's tough to argue the call.
And let's remember that our offense is missing 5 starters. Yet they've shown significant improvement the last two games. If only our defense would do the same, we might get some positive momentum going.

I don't blame Allen for our current situation, and it'd be much worse without him. His stats this year have been unbelievable compared to where I thought his ceiling was, and he was on fire in the A&M game.
I don't fault him for not being "clutch" because he should've never been in that situation in the first place. Our D made Tech's QB look like the love child of Peyton Manning and Johnny Manziel, and we had A&M beat if not for the horrendous false start on 4th and short and the breakdowns on defense.
I have no faith in Allen to win a close game at the end, but it shouldn't be coming to that.

Oh and I would be all for leaving Kendrick Jackson as our starting FB even when Walker comes back healthy. I thought he looked more natural at the position in just a few weeks of playing there than Walker has after almost two years.

This is what pisses me off the most. Our offense has been kneecapped by a seemingly limitless amount of injuries and yet they're holding their own and improving, but our defense is relatively healthy and they suck.
The injury excuse is off the table as far as the defense is concerned.

Walker is a soft Missouri kid who is sandbagging thinking he'll be the #1 guy next year. He's not playing through an injury that shouldn't matter to come in a block for 10 plays.

If Collins jumps to the draft, we're absolutely fricked at RB in terms of depth next year unless we pull off a miracle and get White or Whaley.
We have nothing behind RW3 except for Day, who is an unknown and can't stay healthy, and Walker, whose bones are made of glass and has contributed absolutely nothing in half a decade on campus.

Pretty scary thought that the backups are both made of glass. We need to bring in two RB's in this class and TJ Hammonds may have to stay off there as well.

I'd like to see his fourth quarter stats. Hell, in the 3rd, he still hasn't gone to shite. The 4th is where he really does his damage.

Through the first three games BAs completion % in the red zone was 29%
I don't know what it is now
There are other stats available to backup that BA is not a winner,for lack of a better term.
A&Ms QB is a winner which is why he was able to place the ball perfectly for the go ahead TD

I am going to refrain from bad mouthing BA the rest of the season. I may need a reminder from time to time. I'm sure he wants to do well in crunch time waaaaaaaaaay the hell more than we want him to. It's just not in his DNA. Now players with dumbshit penalties, and coaches are still fair game.
