Did Missouri running David Yost off have a lasting impact on the program?

Yost was a good recruiter, the only thing really changed in regards to that is our footprint seems to have moved further south and we're still getting great athletes. David Yost did exceptional work coaching QB's for Mizzou, and since departing our QB coaching under Andy Hill seems to have declined signifcantly . Yost brought out the best in each QB that came through the program and you saw incremental improvement year to year.Mauk has regressed year to year with our current QB coach partly because they're forcing him to be a pocket passer, not one of Mauk's strengths. Mauks's ability to improvise is what made him a good QB, and it seems the coaching staff has moved further away from that. If Henson called more plays involving option/ moving the pocket on rollout plays my feeling is Mauk would improve. Yost had a bad year during his final year, but his play calling could have been hampered by James Franklin being injured, and having Berkstresser as the starting QB. Lately Josh Henson seems to be calling plays that don't play to the strength of Mizzou offense (I.e. using Witter as a between the tackles runner when Hunt has demonstrated being more capable, not throwing the ball over the middle) Yost was no worse than Henson has been this year calling bubble screens all the time. No doubt we miss Yost's ability to develop QB's more than we're getting from Henson calling the plays. Did Yost get run off too fast ?

Is Mauk a pocket passer? No. Why are we forcing Mauk to be a pocket passer?

Recruiting and "maybe?" QB coaching...not sure. Play calling...HELL YES, it improved.

Mauk is getting coached by his brother too. His dad has the C. Rushing game is shite. That's part of the equation.

Might want to look at the class that Mauk came in with. Half that class was dismissed.

There have also been a number of WRs that would have experienced. But they have all been dismissed from the program.

I've resisted the urge to comment since last night because I'm so disgusted I'm just not myself. I think I'm now calm enough to wade back in.

Yost was the fall guy but it wasn't all him. He did a good job working with the QBs and was a great recruiter. He wasn't ready to be the OC. Andy Hill developed some great receivers, but I don't know if QB is his spot to coach. I say don't know because there are so many influences on Mauk that it's impossible to tell.

Did we run Yost off too soon? Maybe, but the other option was demoting him and that wasn't going to happen. Play calling had to improve, and it has. Mostly.

Recruiting has definitely been an issue, but I'm wondering about coaching too - we supposedly have a good, experienced coach in Washington, but the receivers aren't getting it done. Is that because of the weird delivery from Mauk? Shouldn't they be accustomed to that by now?

This is just sad to watch. Looks like decent to good pieces, but when put together they just don't work. No chemistry, no solid flavor coming together from all the different tastes. I have no answers, but it's going to be a LONG season.

Yeah. He was promoted because it was his turn. And Pinkel wouldn't have demoted him. Which is a shame. Because I think he was a decent QB coach and a well-above-average recruiter.

Why was Levi Copelin dismissed? He was part of the 2012 class. He is doing pretty good at Pitt State. He would be helping out this receiving core for sure.

I think it was multiple drug-related issues. Not positive. There was an incident where he lost his temper and threatened a university employee too, I believe.

Does no good to have a "3-strike" system if you're going to be given 5 or 7 or 12 strikes.. which we have no way of knowing he wasn't actually given.

All I remember was the issue where he got mad and threatened someone, I believe with campus life or something. Maybe over the balance on his account or something? Don't recall details, just that the person filed a complaint. And I believe there were 2 weed incidents. And he was gone.

If they weren't playing with DGB, they sure wouldn't play with Copelin. He was good. But I think they follow that policy pretty closely.

believe you are correct, it's part of the AD's initiative on running a tight ship now, so once the issue becomes public, it's a matter of record as a "strike" as well. Of course Pinkel has some leeway as to what constitutes a strike in some situations, which is understandable.

Yes, he should have that discretion. I seem to recall a few years ago he booted a kid who was stupid enough to show up to a team meeting with a styrofoam cup with a red straw. Full of Trops.
