The biggest point against Mauk is he's not showing any signs of 'getting it'.
Sure the OL has issues and Rb is a mess, but Mauk just isn't improving mentally at all.
And he's not a leader.
Time to move on. Let it ride.

Um, Lock also threw an INT also. He tried to fit a ball into a receiver he never should have.
It goes back to what I said in other threads. Lock is not ready yet. That play proved it. He's young and he's full of confidence from his last outing. The team from the last outing was less talented. You go throwing Lock in as a starter in conference play against good players, you will see about the same outcome maybe worse. Give Lock his one or two series a game this season and let him grow.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but yeh it may not prove everything but does prove one thing. Lock is not ready yet. He tried to fit a ball in a spot he shouldn't have against more talented team than he played last week. Against SEMO, that might have been a completion. ASU to my surprise, is much more talented than I previously gave them credit for. So what type of talent level do you think he would see in conference play? SEMO type talent or ASU type talent? ASU was clearly more talented than SEMO, so there is a jump from ASU type talent and SEC type talent. ASU had speed and size. Pretty much what you're going to see come conference play but faster.

I guess that's why they put him right back out there the next series then, right? The bad play proves he's not ready. It will get worse when we hit conference play. Those guys don't mess around. They will beat his confidence to a pulp and then what will you have?

I feel the same way as last week. Lock is the future, Mauk is our present until his play causes us to lose games. Plural. Let Lock build experience and be coached up. Experience is key in conference play, and if I'm the coach, I go with the experienced guy that we've won with in the past until he messes up, or lock proves he's the better option.

When he runs 15 yards backwards and throws up a prayer, I want to break my tv.
I know Lock isn't ready, but at least I'd understand that when he made mistakes.

Mauk vs. Lock is a double-edged sword.
Without Mauk's mobility the touchdown to Culkin doesn't happen. The quarterback draws that were our running game don't happen either. But Lock would have hit Nate Brown in stride for a touchdown on the misdirection fake run.
While a big part of me would love to see Lock start and play, given the state of our OLine and RBs I'd rather stick with the status quo and let Mauk take the punishment instead of our QB of the future.
And we're still winning, btw. Mauk-arse ugly as usual, but we're winning.
In a clear rebuilding year I'll take it.

The coaches need to somehow get Mauk to approach the whole game the way he does late game situations.
Mauk was the best QB in the SEC last year in the 4th quarter and red zone. One of the journalist gave Mauks stats yesterday for late 3rd and 4th quarters. He was 5-7 with 2 TDs. One of the incompletions was dropped, the other a throw away.
Get him to play that way all game and the offense gets good all of a sudden.

He definitely plays with a different focus and intensity in the 4th quarter. Guess that can be be viewed as a good thing, which it is, or a bad thing, that he's not focused and intense the first 3 quarters.
As for Lock, it was actually a good throw, with just too much zip. He's the real deal and is already a better QB than Mauk. He just doesn't have the experience Mauk has and that experience counts for something.

I think the OL might have something to do with it too.
QB needs to move right now. Mauk can move better.
