Suggestions for Nashville?

Planning a guy trip for the A&M-Vandy game. We are looking to get in there Thursday night, which will give us all day Friday and then Saturday night after the game. Anybody have suggestions? It's tough to wade through all of the touristy stuff. We don't mind doing some of that, but we are looking for the most possible fun. TIA.

Opryland - since it moved out of downtown - is one huge tourist dollar sucking machine, especially as it has a big mall attached to it.
Are you staying in the place across from the stadium or nearby?
Driving, or flying and renting a car?

We are just planning this. Probably going to drive because it makes for better stories, but suggestions on where to stay would be a great start. Close to campus and other entertainment would be ideal.

Driving from BCS?
Probably break it into 2 day drive and hit tourist stuff along the way. Done that before and did the overnight in Hot Springs (family there) and like the place. If you are doing the Memphis to Nashville leg do not speed in that area in between.
If you do the southern route it is longer but you hit Houston, New Orleans, and Mobile before heading north. The middle route will be middle speed and will shoot you through with an overnight probably between Jackson and Tuscaloosa.
There are some very nice places close to campus but some are pretty expensive. Lots of new construction around campus but football, basketball, and baseball are all right next to each other and there is a Marriott right there. Have not stayed there yet but others have and liked it.
If it is guy stuff, another option would be to stay downtown and hit the night spots there.

If you go down to the main strip, check out Hatch Letterpress. Lots of iconic concert posters there, plus it's still a working letterpress doing things the old way.
If you like denim, check out the Imogene and Willie storefront.
Hot chicken.

The only thing worth a frick in this thread is Hot Chicken.
Google is your friend. There have been some quality Nashville threads on the OT and FDB lately. Use those.
Edit: Loveless is overrun by tourists and is very overrated. The new Grand Ole Opry way out by the airport sucks.

Go by Whitt's BBQ and get some turkey, walk around Music Row and look at tons of really beautiful women.
Make a demo and try to pitch some stuff at the record companies, just for the hell of it.

AS far as places to stay, Check out AirBnB.com or Wyndham Suits up by Opryland. Plenty of good entertainment downtown. I tend to stay off Broadway because it's so packed and you have to wait forever, So check out a few bars up on Printers Alley. Kellies Karaoke and Lonnies Karaoke bar are good ones. Plenty of good looking ladies in Nashville too. Enjoy Man

The Loveless Biscuit Lady died five years ago and it started going down hill. Place became the feature of every travel/food show imaginable and now getting a table in there is a huge pain in the arse.
For years, it was all just locals or people stopping off the Natchez Trace. Now, it's a watered-down has-been, designed to cater to the tourist crowd before they head to the new Grand Ole Opry and the General Jackson. Ownership has ruined what was a great thing.

Go to the Patterson House for fine drinks. Then stroll down the street to get hammer drunk with college chicks at Winners, Losers, Rebar, and whatever else is around.

I spend most of my time in Nashville in the West End, Green Hills, and the Gulch area. Your age really drives what you'll want to do in Nashville. Are you looking for restaurants, bars, and the likewise?
If you aren't looking to be a tourist for all intents and purposes stay away from Broadway and Opryland.

do a search on the tiger droppings OT for Nashville and you'll find a good thread from a few months ago
I live downtown and contributed to that thread, but don't feel like searching for it since I'm typing this right before a meeting
