A sad day for Alabama folks. He was a good'un!

Sorry to hear about that. My Dad is 81 and everytime I see some one in their eighties passing, it really gets to me. My sympathies to the Alabama nation and to Mr. Layton's friends and family.

Damn. Grew up listening to Doug Layton and John Forney on the radio. Games weren't on TV all the time like today. Me and my Grandad listening to them on the radio was almost religious. RIP Doug. Roll Tide.

Sad to hear. Little young for anything he did but I always enjoyed him and John Ed on the Saturday morning show they did here in Bham in recent years. RIP

Some of my fondest childhood memories are those involving he and Forney's Alabama football radio broadcasts. However, I must say the thing I miss the most is he and John Ed. Odd that they passed away so close together.

When you went to Knoxville, they had this ol' coon dog they would bring out; his name was Smokey," Duncan said. "Anyway, I was down on the field and Doug and I were talking. And while we were talking, the handler of the coon dog came out of the tunnel.
"And I said, 'Doug, down on the other end of the field, I see ol' Smokey coming out. And Doug said, 'Yeah, if I had my 30-aught-6, I could drop him from here.' "
RIP Mr. Layton
